Intent was to do one assignment and now it's been 35 years already!

Officer and Pilot (Current Employee)
Washington, DC

I have been working at US Air Force full-time for more than 10 years

ProsIncredible mission and world-class people. Education and other benefits are outstanding and the pay remains competitive. Military service provides the opportunity to travel and see the world to included living in other countries.

ConsBudget cuts and ongoing force shaping policies cause stability problems. The slow economy coupled with the latest round of personnel cuts has resulted in reduced and slowed promotion opportunities. Work hours versus life balance can be a challange at times.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to get back to stable force levels.

A great way to see the world!

Contract Specialist (Current Employee)
Andrews AFB, MD

I have been working at US Air Force full-time for more than 5 years

ProsThe Air Force gives you the ability to see the world and enough money to enjoy it. I feel lucky to have seen so many great places which I wouldn't have otherwise.

ConsLong hours, leadership is constantly rotating and many times I have been put under people who I feel are incompetent.

Advice to Senior ManagementQuit trying to trim retention incentives because you are going to loose your best people.

ConsLots of moving, poor stability for community and family. Financially challenging. Lose money every move. Never establish equity in house/life

Career review

Program Manager (Current Employee)
Washington, DC

I have been working at US Air Force full-time for more than 10 years

ProsRetirement benefits are some of the best in the world. In some groups, you develop a sense of family; and overall you have a sense of pride serving your country.

ConsConstant moves and deployments make it tough on spouses to find jobs/grow in jobs and is tough on the family.

Advice to Senior ManagementFind ways to stabilize people who might trade career growth for stabilization.

The most honorable career choice there is.

USAF Honor Guard/Communications (Former Employee)
Washington, DC

I worked at US Air Force full-time for more than 5 years

ProsDecent pay, honorable profession, felt like I was part of a brotherhood, great benefits, GI Bil!!!

ConsPeople being promoted who were dumb as rocks and inclined to power trip to compensate for a lack of intelligence. These types can make your job hard to accomplish. Saluting someone who is a moron and who is your boss only because mommy and daddy sent them to college can be a bit annoying.

Advice to Senior ManagementTo Sgts-Officers: Be leaders and mentors. Stripes or insignias on your lapel should be a reflection of you and they are best suited for those who respect those they lead.
