I worked at US Airways full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

People that I worked with are awesome, lots of travel opportunities

    Cons

No training for employees, not very many growth opportunities. Pay scale is very unfair. Management is done by fear and intimidation. There was no work life balance. If your boss sent you an email at 2am you are expected to answer by 2:01am. If not expect trouble. Phoenix is a union shop, so there is very much an Us vs. Them mentality. Integrity is greatly lacking in management. Contracted labor has no sick time. Material planners, maintenance planners are also union labor protected by collective bargaining agreements. There is no pay for performance. Union labor is often is paid much more than management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Good luck with the next merger!

I have been working at US Airways part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Flying privileges are phenomenal, I would say the best in the industry. Health, dental, vision, 401K, all the package available for even part time employees.

    Cons

Extremely low pay. Very stressful environment.

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

I have been working at US Airways

    Pros

Good people and for the most part talented people. On the whole, it is a fun company to work for. visionary senior management.

    Cons

Pay could be better. The company is very finance-centric, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but something to be aware of.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Part of a leaders job is to mentor and to help top performers advance in responsibility - and that is not consistent among departments

Current Employee - Corporate Purchasing Intern in Tempe, AZ

I have been working at US Airways as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Very nice environment with a lot of good people that enjoy being there. Many opportunities to learn and expand, not a typical internship where you only work on one project. This internship gives you the opportunity to learn something new everyday.

    Cons

Cons would be hiring is only available as the positions are needed. Aside from that there are really no cons, this is a great company.

Former Employee - CSA in Raleigh, NC

I worked at US Airways part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Knowing you have great support from supervisors during "crunch"times. Being a CSA is satisfying if you enjoy facetime with customers, however, when things go to chaos, team support is essential.

    Cons

Great company for people who truly know the airline biz.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Onsight management is burdened by results and schedules. Esprit de corp is fostered through true understanding of established personnel problem solving skills, not penalizing staff for issues beyond their control.

Current Employee - Line Pilot  in  Phila, PA
Current Employee - Line Pilot in Phila, PA

I have been working at US Airways full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The Line Pilots FINALLY received a long-avoided pay increase associated with the American and USAirways merger. There was be another significant increase in 2016 because our pay will be tied to UAL and DAL.

    Cons

Although positive change may be coming, management in the past has treated labor on the property rather poorly. To put it bluntly, where a "problem" could have be remidied with a Fly Swatter, management perfered the use of a five-pound sledge hammer. They seem all too ready to make an example out of someone rather than appreciate the longtime service the individual has given the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pilots are a valuable resource, you might try treating us as such.
