* If you are married, the pay and benefits are pretty darn good. *Promotion potential is there * You get the opportunity to serve the greatest nation in the world.

Cons

*80% of the leadership is toxic*Promotion system is stupid, allows for people to get promoted who don't deserve it*You have no life, its all Army, all the time.

Advice to Senior Management

Improve the promotion system, enough with the stupid board. Leadership should be competent enough to pass a written exam on THEIR JOB. Even out the pay scale between officers and enlisted. It is stupid for an 0-3 with 5 years service to make more than an e-8 with 15 years.

Good time off. Danger. Interesting conversation. Early days. Healthcare coverage. Dental included. Financial services. Comradereie, Diversity, weapons grenades explosives survival.

Cons

long hours, unfullfilling, dull, dangerous, appeals to people of a decidely low intellect who have nothing better to do than talk about sports.

Advice to Senior Management

There is no way to make it better, just let people out when you can and kick out the people who really suck.

Pros

A very "check the box" organization, if you can "check the box" properly then the sky is the limit, However if you are an independent thinker then it might not be right for you. Depends on your tolerance for uber-big organization BS.

Cons

See the above answer. This institution is the very personification of the Peter Principal. If your tolerance for stupid people in charge is high and your ability to keep your "nose clean" vis a vie political issues is also high then you will do very well in this company. I do not want to sound overly negative but this IS an institution governed by the political dictates of politics, sadly.

Advice to Senior Management

Stop listening to public opinion polls or the opinion of (almost) anybody above the rank of Captain. The real knowledge base of this organization is in the middle level NCO's (E-6 through E-8).

Pros

It is rewarding to work for the best country in the world. As a medic, I treat the best and the brightest.

If you are working under bad NCO's, your military experience frustrating. Unfortunately, you can't choose who you work for or with.

It is a slow plodding frustrating place to work. But is does have security, sometimes.

Standards set forth by the Army not being met by everyone

Hold accountable everyone from private to general. This rule of you can add rules but you can't take away creates disparity between all units

Pros

Education benefits when your service is complete is the best part about joining the Army. If you choose to make it a career then great, but for those of us who are short timers then get in and get out.

Iraq, Afghanistan and everywhere in between. I served as a Cavalry Scout and if you are not fighting a war you are training to fight one.

Great benefits. Some amazing places to live while working outside the US.
