Pros
Great promotion potential and you can easily plan out your life using the posted pay scales. Great benefits, but the life-family balance is off.
Cons
Long hours. Balancing life and family is difficult. Must be willing to put in a significant amount of time to be successful-- but that really isnt a con.
Pros
Leadership development, responsibility, and competence.
Cons
Army life is tough but still rewarding when you're finished.
Advice to Senior Management
Get rid of bad officers.
Pros
Strong working environment where professional development is encouraged. Dedication to duty and performance are well rewarded. An organization where the needs of mission accomplishment well surpass your own. Strong satisfaction with getting things done the right way.
Cons
Very demanding work environment can exist at various echelons. Mentorship, leadership, and professional development skills have seemed to become overshadowed by current world events. National policy has dictated the restructuring of the force dependent upon national priorities, and valuable resources will be let go to meet personnel manning requirements.
Advice to Senior Management
Spend more time developing leaders now. Stabilize the force structure within organizations and don’t realign them by moving 95% of force out of an organization after a combat deployment.
Pros
Decent amount of hands on learning.
Focused on management.
Learn to cross-coordinate and work as a group.
Translates well to corporate management.
Cons
Hours are often horrendous (0630am-600pm most days).
Promotion is based on regulations and meeting minimum criteria, instead of being based on merit and comparative performance vs. peers.
Advice to Senior Management
The Army's promotion scheme needs to be completely retooled. Too many officers are promoted, simply because it is "their turn", when they have met only the most basic criteria, or have performed "on par". At the same time, the highest-level performers are typically promoted at the exact same rate, providing no incentive to excel.
Pros
Amazing benefits and great way to better yourself as a person
Cons
The advancement is a little difficult and you have to work for it but overall a great place to work
Advice to Senior Management
make up your mind
Pros
Secure and Stable environment to work
Cons
Negative leadership is always a downer
Advice to Senior Management
Keep your head down and do your job
Pros
Good Salary and Benefits, Great Travel opportunities and training
Cons
Long periods of time away from home
Advice to Senior Management
Morale should be taken more seriously
Pros
Benefits package is great if you can use it. Many 3 and 4 day weekends, as well as 1 month per year of paid leave. Good mid-level leaders take time with lower enlisted to grow them as soldiers and men.
Cons
Long work hours. Often stayed at work for 2-3 hours longer than needed waiting on higher-ups to release us. Some leaders lack ability to spread information or give direction without losing temper.
Advice to Senior Management
Once soldiers are at the unit, spend more time trying to mold them and make them better than breaking them down.
Pros
Well, the pay and benefits are great. People complain about the pay, but it was pretty nice for me. I added up all my benefits, like COLA, BAH, BAS and it came out to over 60K a year. I love that paid vacation and free health care too!
Cons
Well... deployments obviously. Stupid people making your life hell. Being a Jr enlisted sucks if you're in the barracks, because you aren't treated like an adult but like a kid. Great if you're 18-20 and need guidance, but not if you're 30 yr old and a SPC. Lots of other things suck when you're in the Army, but you don't let it get to ya, that's what being in the Army is all about. Embracing the suck.
Advice to Senior Management
How come as soon as I leave y'all change the beret rule? Figures!!
Pros
good benefits, good opportunities. lots of travel.
Cons
you risk your life for not much pay sometimes
