    Pros

Good locations around the world. Like everywhere, your co-workers make or break the job. Most soldiers are great to work with.

    Cons

Those good locations can be hard to get. It's difficult to fire sub-standard employees. While the Army downsizes right now, good leadership is leaving in droves.

    Advice to Management

Thin staff positions at the top. Large general staffs lead to units have too many tasks in too little time. Most are non-combat related.

    Pros

Salaried to find career direction and step up in civilian world.

    Cons

Not much say in location. If your stuck with a bad command team then not much you can do.

    Pros

The environment is constantly changing and the work can be extremely challenging. The work is very rewarding. The job allows for a certain level of autonomy once provided with purpose and direction.

    Cons

It's extremely difficult to anticipate the future as the mission can change dramatically. It is difficult to maintain strong family times due to the large amounts of time spent away from home.

    Pros

The camaraderie and shared sense of purpose. Being on a team that acts more like a family. Great educational and training opportunities. Tuition assistance and the GI Bill are two great tools to enhance your future.

    Cons

The organization can be very rigid and slow to change. Promotions are more time based and less achievement based. During a time of conflict you are deployed often. The duty stations are not in the most desirable locations.

    Advice to Management

Develop a more merit based promotion system. Too often potential and competence are overlooked because of seniority. I think this stifles initiative and is a common reason for top performers to exit the Army early in their career.
