Current Employee – been working at US Army for more than 10 years
Pros – Good Pay and incentives, an organization that truly cares for the individual Soldier, great advancement if you work hard, meet great people and truly see the world.
Cons – Long hours, time away from family, Not all supervisors at the Senior level put the effort to make the organization a better place. Be prepared to leave your family for months at a time. Be prepared to be the worlds police, some missions are well worth the time apart from family.Other missions are for political reasons and the aftermath of that decision will always be with those who have suffered from that decision.
Advice to Senior Management – Don't forget where you came from, learn to lead by example and not because I told you mentality. Ask yourself once in awhile does this really make since and not make Soldiers do it because you don't won't to admit you can't accomplish all tasks that are given to you with the assets you have available. There is a consiquence to everything you make a decision on, it may not effect you but has a very negative impact on those that work for you.

Former Employee – worked at US Army full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – The best people that I know are in the Army. The job will give you a sense of pride. You have a fair chance to move up in pay and responsibility. I started out making $13,500 and was making close to $60,000 as a NCO when I got out. The benefits are good. It's a cool job. You will do things that you can't do anywhere else.
Cons – Sometimes the Army seems like it's too big and stuff gets fixed slower than it should. As a leader in the Army you will find that a lot of your time that you should be spending training your guys will be spent dealing with soldiers that don't maintain proper standards. It's a fun life, but it consumes you. Especially during wartime. Out of my 8 years I spent 5 of those years away from home because I was either deployed to Iraq or training. My 5/8 ratio was slightly excessive though because I volunteered for a lot of schools. The wars are winding down so this may not be the case anymore.
Advice to Senior Management – Keep cutting the fat, holding soldiers to proper standards. Guys who join and try to hide out in the same units to make an easy paycheck really hurt the effort. Additionally, I got out because I had my tab and wanted to re-enlist to go to ranger battalion. Unfortunately my SGM fenced me into my 3rd tour in Iraq 9 months before deployment. I did my final deployment and the rest of my time honorably. That situation put a bad taste in my mouth though, so I decided to get out and never put myself in a position where someone had that much say in what way my career went.

Former Employee – worked at US Army full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – There is great camaraderie in the Army as well as a sense of purpose. You also get paid to work out
Cons – Getting shot at, getting blown up, endless and terrible bureaucracy , incompetent Soldiers, NCOs, and Soldiers are allowed to exist, its impossible to kick someone out, and you get to travel to terrible countries and try and help people who don't want your help.

Former Employee – worked at US Army full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – You will definitely grow in this organization. You will learn about yourself and the world that the rest of the planet will never know.
Cons – The deck is stacked against you. Leaders play favorites, just like in the civilian world. Rank DOES have its privileges.
Advice to Senior Management – There is no advice management would adhere to.

Former Employee – worked at US Army as a contractor for more than 3 years
Pros – It was a great learning experience. I learned a lot about my self. Great benefits once you get out. I am currently two months away from receiving my bachelor's degree which was 100% paid by the VA.
Cons – A lot of bad leadership. You are only worth as much as your rank says. You rarely ever do the job you signed up to do. I signed up to be a mechanic and right when I got to my unit I was sent to Iraq (twice) were I was assigned to a convoy security team as a gunner moving resupply all over. Be careful of recruiters some are good but some are real scumbags.
