Working in dangerous environments
Advice to Senior Management
Take care if Soldiers both on active duty and after active duty.
Pros
Good benefits, pay and vacation and sick leave
Cons
It is discouraging to see taxpayers money spent on so much crap.
Advice to Senior Management
Watch your employees, I see so many people buying shoes and chatting on the internet all day instead of doing real work. One of my coworkers would take about 5 personal call an hour.
Pros
The benefits are priceless
Guaranteed pay check
Opportunity to meet new people and visit new places
Pick up crucial skills for life
Cons
Micromanagement
Sometimes, the whole rank system gets political
Must be prepared for combat at any time
Must be prepared to be separated from family when the Army needs it
Advice to Senior Management
Only advise that I have to offer is for the senior leadership to put a little more emphasis on family time for the Soldiers.
Pros
Service to country and self. Great way of life.
Cons
Potential deployments...but fewer now than before
Advice to Senior Management
None
Pros
The Army takes care of you but only to cover its own butt and do get more people to join. The GI bill would be the best reason.
Cons
Way to many to list them all, invading you personal life, loose most of your rights, told where you have to live especially if your single. Food and living isnt free like the tell some people when they join the just deduct it out of your pay check, if you are gonna go shoot things or blow things up or do any kinda of training theres about a 4 hour or more waiting period before it actually starts. Everything we do in the army is way over safety causious. Most of the time soldiers are wasting their time on a daily basis sitting around and doing nothing in a moter pool/office or doing something that has no purpose at all.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop worring about stuff that doesnt matter and have an effect on soldiers, start worring about things that do matter.
Pros
Great benefits, including health care, retirement, dental, housing, and family programs. Promotions are almost guranteed for officers up to LTC rank as long as you put the time in. Also has outstanding comaraderie between peers. Every day is different, which can be a challenge, but it also keeps the job interesting. Integrity and courage are valued. Great racial and gender diversity.
Cons
Frequent moves mean you never get really comfortable in a job and they cause stress on families. Frequent deployments also stress families. There's a "we can do it" culture, no matter what the mission, which leads to doing more with fewer resources and less time. Outstanding performance isn't recognized with additional pay or faster promotions, creating little incentive to excel. But the biggest problem is that as officers progress in the Army, many of the best ones tend to get out in favor of civilian jobs, which dilutes the quality of officers at higher levels.
Advice to Senior Management
Put a priority on retaining good people and placing them in positions that maximize their talents. Don't take on more missions than the people are capable of doing well. Reward outstanding performance.
