I have been working at US Census Bureau full-time

    Pros

    Great work life balance.

    Cons

The commute to work could be better for those coming from VA.

    Pros

Ideal for those looking for a reasonable part time job. Pay is higher than most part time jobs in the region.

    Cons

Assigned cases are sometimes citizens who don't want to participate. Instead of getting rid of them, they keep them in the survey.

    Advice to Management

In order to truly obtain pertinent date, delete homes that have no interest in participating.

  3. Enumerator

I have been working at US Census Bureau part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I was able to set my own schedule and work as much as I cared to do. Since I was motivated, I was able to work more than the average enumerator.

    Cons

The introduction and training was exceptionally tedious and aimed at the lowest common denominator. It is paid, though, so, it is not a make or break part of the position.

    Advice to Management

This is everything I expected from a part-time government job. Nothing was exceptional, but nothing was ineffective. I had a good experience overall.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at US Census Bureau part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Job stability. Can not be forced to retire. Good benefits if eligible. Somewhat flexible schedule.

    Cons

All outside reps are considered part time regardless if you have enough work assigned to work a constant 40 hrs. This translates into no Holiday pay ever. However if you work enough hours you can qualify for vacation/sick pay an may purchase heath/dental/vision benefits. Also eligible for pension benefits that vary by individual. Usually only a 2 hr guarantee a month and must work a set amount of time(usually 3 month each tier) before you can add to your caseload. No chance of becoming full time status at present even if you work 40 hours caseloads per week. In Los Angeles specifically, team leadership is seriously lacking in problem resolution with too many tiered levels to[procure a timely remedy leading to loss ot work and consequentially financial loss.

I have been working at US Census Bureau full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible working hours. Friendly co-workers. Reasonable workload. Fairly open communication with immediate supervisor and managers. Good health and retirement benefit. Plenty young people joined our ranks in recent years.

    Cons

Not enough communication between teams on different areas. Some employees are disengaged. We lag behind the private industry for about 2 to 3 years on the technology product we use. Not enough knowledge transfer when experienced employees retire.

    Advice to Management

To discourage office politics, group thinking, and red taps as much as possible. Assign the right people for the right job. Hire employees with skill set that close related to their job functions. Encourage collaboration between different groups. Encourage adopting new technology and new ideas.
