Pros
If you love our miltiary, you'll love working here. I was very proud to work at the Pentagon. The work is sometimes tough, but you position yourself right with the right folks you can really feel like you're making a difference. The people I worked with were amazingly smart and have such a sense of pride. I sometimes regret that I left, but I had a tough time with some of the policies at the time.
Cons
You have got to be in a place where you accept and to some degree support U.S. military policy as a whole. The Pentagon holds over 26,000 employees, so it can be a bit overwhelming to work there and you can often be pigeon holed into a position. Some bureaus a very political, so you don't want to ever show your true colors if you're with the other party! Also, civlians can often be overlooked or ignored because military members often don't trust anyone not in uniform.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't pigeon hole employees so much. For military leaders, recognize the value that your civilian employess bring to the table and don't assume they don't understand just because they've never worn the uniform.
