    -New building

Defense Media Activity (DMA) falls under the Department of Defense. It is a media organization that produces audio, audiovisual, print, photography and graphics products that serves an internal DOD audience. DMA employs military personnel, federal employees and federal contractors.

    Cons

-Everything moves at a turtle's pace,
-Politics and territoriality thwart progress and innovation,
    -Shaky future with shrinking budget,
-Lack of cohesive vision and teamwork

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Take real action to enable, promote, sustain and reward innovation,
-Shake it up! Things are badly clogged in middle-management,
-The workforce is bored to death; create big projects and force inter-office cooperation,
-Turn off the lights and save precious $$$! The whole building is lit up 24/7, even on weekends.

I worked at US Department of Defense full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Loved learning new things about construction, equipment and government construction projects. Enjoyed seeing a wide variety of construction projects and developed a great understanding of government contracts. The hours were great, the time off was plenty and the pay wasnt bad.

    Cons

Promotions were only available after particular time in grade and if there was an open position. We had individuals on our staff that were just counting down time to retirement and not pulling their load. Supervisors did little to nothing to correct this behavior,

I worked at US Department of Defense full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Extremely rewarding and exciting work. Every day is a challenge in figuring out how to advance the defense needs of the United States, particularly in this era of budget cuts and numerous threats.

    Cons

It's easy to get caught up in the daily hustle so you have to be very aware of maintaining a good work/life balance. Particularly here in the Washington D.C. area where the commute can take up 2-3 hours of your day.

    Pros

    Stable employment.
Flexible schedule and time off for if needed
The benefits are great and the environment friendly.

    Cons

No opportunity for growth. Many employees remain in the same job for years which creates a bottleneck.
The work is mudane and is the same every day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cross training and employee development is a way to keep good employees.

Current Employee - Electronics Engineer in Edwards, CA

I have been working at US Department of Defense full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Opportunity to evaluate full up systems that very few people ever even get closed to. Service to country, efforts made ensuring systems are thoroughly tested before our troops have to use them in combat.

    Cons

Witness of governmental waste first hand. Frustration from watching people abuse the system and coast with minimal effort.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Streamline processes, fire the dead weight, broaden the incentive flight programs, eliminate wasteful "required" trainings.
