    Pros

The DOD is very aggressive in encouraging and funding training for professional development.

    Cons

Technical jobs are typically at field activities, which typically requires frequent travel for developing technical skills.

    Advice to Management

There are a lot of mandatory training. I suggest management reduce the mandatory training requirement.

    Pros

Great opportunity to work for the DOD, overall they are a very talented group of individuals to team with. The work way very rewarding and touched upon many areas of Enterprise Architecture

    Cons

They were in need of a great deal of overhaul as to be expected. Lots of opportunities to work longterm. Cons were on some contracts there was a 12 month limitation. Also environment can be very political.

    Pros

Pretty secure job, work-life balance is good for people with families not so much for young people. Really good benefits such as health insurance, TSP, leave.

    Cons

Work environment is really old school.

    Pros

Having to some of the best leadership and providing the ability to excel it was just up to you to attack it.

    Cons

Politics are everywhere. Just adapt and overcome. Remain neutral and you will be just fine.

    Advice to Management

Don't always just react. Take each issue and what I do is take a Sales apprach like a Ben Franklin weightted close. Pros, Cons. Which one is best. Go with it.

    Pros

Extremely rewarding and exciting work. Every day is a challenge in figuring out how to advance the defense needs of the United States, particularly in this era of budget cuts and numerous threats.

    Cons

It's easy to get caught up in the daily hustle so you have to be very aware of maintaining a good work/life balance. Particularly here in the Washington D.C. area where the commute can take up 2-3 hours of your day.

    Pros

I have worked as a civilian for the DOD for since 1983 (except for four years as a contractor). The work is exciting and the opportunities are plentiful if one applies them self.

    Cons

You can make more money in Industry, especially as a government contractor. changes in leadership often results in changes of direction; leadership changes often..

    Advice to Management

Certain services ( like information technology) could be run better if managed like a business rather than a military organization.

    Pros

Interesting work, smart people. Travel. Part of a great team. Great opportunities to advance. Good benefits for families and generally really good management.

    Cons

Crazy schedule. Travel is often to sub-optimal locations. Furloughs, fickle Congress, pay freezes. The job can get very political as you advance. A lot of people hat you because you are a federal employee.

  11. Great place to work! I can't imagine being anywhere else. This is the best job ever.
