I worked at US Foods full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great starting pay Benefits are ok Good company to retire with if you can make it that long

    Cons

Management doesn't care about employees morale Too many hours, not enough care about how employees are handling those hours Micromanagement, especially in national sales Vacation package is poor Threats keep you working long hours, PiP is in place for management, not to make conditions better for the employee receiving a PiP Communication seems to be cut off on the way up, while downwards we're all made to fail.

    Advice to Management

Have a clear, concise plan in place for each employee of your department. More communication, less red tape. Open your eyes and realize that there's a problem with morale, and also that not all managers are handling their subordinates appropriately.

I worked at US Foods full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent salary and bonus. New technologies to continue learning.

    Cons

Sub-par vacation package offering (2 weeks vacation, you have to negotiate to get 3 weeks vacation in your job offer). Disorganization across business areas. Heavy reliance on external consultants rather than hiring and retaining full-time employees.

    Advice to Management

US Foods was improving before the Sysco merger announcement, then after the announcement a lot of talented people left the company. I can only imagine how morale is at the company since the Sysco merger fell through.

I have been working at US Foods (More than a year)

    Pros

Great collaborative work environment and people at every level are willing to get their hands dirty.

    Cons

Last 18 months have been a lot of ups and downs due to impending Sysco acquisition. In recent weeks, many leadership changes to rebrand company. Not sure if we're going in the right direction anymore.

    Advice to Management

Leaders did a wonderful job in communicating the last 18 months. Please don't lose the compassionate side while going through the company transformation. That's what kept many people around.

    Pros

Everyone is so nice and I have learning a lot about distribution. I can use the skills I have learned where ever I decide to move in my career.

    Cons

I don't have anything bad to say. As an intern, there are some days where I am not doing too much, but I try to keep myself busy and learn as much as I can.

I have been working at US Foods full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of opportunity, good location, great people, good benefits, good communication from management on business developments. Opportunity to work on large high profile projects and with large customers.

    Cons

The protracted merger process has created a lot of uncertainty. Clearly, not all managers are created equal and US Foods has its share of managers that should not be managing people or projects.

    Advice to Management

Continue to be open about developments in the business environment and clearly communicate the company's plans if the merger with Sysco does not go through.
