    Pros

Stable work environment. Decent equipment. Co-workers are great people. Pay for delivery drivers is competitive with the rest of the industry and probably exceeds that of some non-food related LTL companies.

    Cons

Lack of upward mobility within the company for drivers. Pay for relay drivers is not competitive. On average, relay drivers earn from $10K -$20K less than delivery drivers. Shortage of drivers at the Charlotte division means securing time off outside of scheduled vacation is next to impossible. Transportation management is wholly unconcerned with the concerns of drivers that work out of the smaller drop-sites.

    Advice to Management

Learn how to communicate with the drivers in a more effective manner. Instead of telling a driver that he or she doesn't know what they're talking about, listen to their concerns and offer constructive dialogue and work together toward a solution that benefits not just the driver, but customers as well.

    Pros

Everyone is so nice and I have learning a lot about distribution. I can use the skills I have learned where ever I decide to move in my career.

    Cons

I don't have anything bad to say. As an intern, there are some days where I am not doing too much, but I try to keep myself busy and learn as much as I can.

    Pros

Great collaborative work environment and people at every level are willing to get their hands dirty.

    Cons

Last 18 months have been a lot of ups and downs due to impending Sysco acquisition. In recent weeks, many leadership changes to rebrand company. Not sure if we're going in the right direction anymore.

    Advice to Management

Leaders did a wonderful job in communicating the last 18 months. Please don't lose the compassionate side while going through the company transformation. That's what kept many people around.

    Pros

Decent pay and benefits, vacations, training, car allowance, 401k , good products and sales tools. Great training program for rookies and unseasonably TM'S.

    Cons

long hours and hard to hit commissions. Promised to give new Territory Managers time to grow business before being put on commissions beware of that promise because they will change that to commission in the first year. This is a job that you are married to 7 days a week.If the company makes a mistake it always comes back on you.

    Advice to Management

Quit trying to be a high tech company reinventing the wheel and get back to the basics of customer service, good prices and quality products.

    Pros

Lots of opportunity, good location, great people, good benefits, good communication from management on business developments. Opportunity to work on large high profile projects and with large customers.

    Cons

The protracted merger process has created a lot of uncertainty. Clearly, not all managers are created equal and US Foods has its share of managers that should not be managing people or projects.

    Advice to Management

Continue to be open about developments in the business environment and clearly communicate the company's plans if the merger with Sysco does not go through.

    Pros

The Food Service industry is a very interesting and exciting business to be an analyst in and US Foods has a very good strategic plan to keep the company ranked at the top.

    Cons

Running too lean in some areas and require a lot of hours on salaried roles with minimal perks or compensations other than the annual bonus. A very "rat race" culture that seems to be accepted and expected by management. The work/homelife balance is not a priority in most upper management styles. It is up to the individual to "fight" for that balance.

    Advice to Management

With the pace and the expectations at an all time high and the anticipation that this is only getting higher, it would be a very logical and an appreciated gesture to implement a 1 or 2 day a week work from home option. Many companies do it for salaried roles and this has proven to increase productivity.

    Pros

Wonderful company for people who love food and the restaurant industry. Good place for first time experience in outside sales to learn the ropes

    Cons

A bit micro-managed from the center. Technology tends to supplant instincts if you are a more experienced sales person

    Advice to Management

It is still a people business. Don't overthink managing your people.

    Pros

Freedom to manage your time, schedule and days. Enjoyable relationships with customers.

    Cons

Pretty much on call 24/7 and 365. Customers seem to think you are at their disposal if you let them. Sales numbers can be hard to reach per competition.

    Advice to Management

More one on one time in the field with sales people, less in your offices.
