Pros
The money is fairly good, and I like many of my co-workers. Brand new building is very nice as well.
Cons
There is little to no training with this company, every person is doing the job of about two or three and that leads to a high stress environment.
Advice to Senior Management
Give more respect to the vendors we have working for us. NOT once have I seen a vendor get paid promptly for their work. Quit micromanaging, step back and let me do my job.
Pros
The hours were nice.
Some of the middle management was awesome.
Cons
You do a lot of work with contractors who are being paid poorly so your job is to essentially take money out the pockets of hard working individuals.
You never actually see the sites that you manage and are often caught between store employees and contractors.
There is constant pressure to get contractors to work for less.
There is a terrible training program so you start out completely lost.
There is little financial growth as an individual employee.
Much of your experience depends on which account you are given to handle. If you are on a money making account, you get a lot more support from upper management, but if you're on a lower priority account you're left hanging.
Because U,S. Maintenance acquires new accounts by underbidding the current rates for janitorial, landscape and plowing services, any new account involves calling the current contractors and basically telling them to take a pay cut or lose their job. This makes going to work painfully depressing.
Advice to Senior Management
Please work at being more consistent in standards for employees and support for accounts. Please try to make the work environment nicer and cleaner.
Pros
It's a paying job. It is convenient if you are in the area.
Cons
No growth or movement. Hardly match the 401k contribution. Negative
Advice to Senior Management
have a better program
Pros
The hours. The company is a facilities management company with 24 hour coverage, but for the most part the hours are 9-5, M-F. There are night and weekend shifts for the 24 hour coverage, for which employees are paid $25 per hour.
The company has been growing fast, which presented career growth opportunities, but that seems to be slowing. I was promoted at 12 months, but the promised promotion to the next level seems to be stalled.
Cons
The company was just purchased by Transfield Services from Australia. The company now has to meet the goals of a larger corporation, which are impossible to achieve. The end result was a cut in raises and bonuses.
USM uses contracted labor to perform its services to major retail clients. There is constant pressure to get them to work cheaper, which results in high turnover. The prices to the clients are often very low, making the services hard to fill.
The company training program has always been poor, resulting in new employees that don't know what they are doing, which results in high turnover.
Advice to Senior Management
Review clients for profitability and cut those that don't meet profit goals.
Stop having such an antagonistic relationship with sub-contractors, who do the actual work of the company.
Establish a comprehensive training program using experienced personnel. The company hired from the outside for a Training Director some years ago, but nothing has been done to establish real training.
