Pros
Benifets
strong work ethic
ability to travel
Cons
Hours required to work
Low pay
Pros
- Pay is steady and guaranteed
- Hard work is rewarded in the form of military awards/decorations
- There is a lot of room to "play" and try new things without the fear of losing your job
Cons
- Management is incompetent and not knowledgable, for the most part
- The job can become very stressful in combat environments when network uptime can mean saving or ending lives
Advice to Senior Management
- Your enlisted data Marines have been trained in a broad variety of subjects (knowing a little about a lot), they are not highly technically trained and solutions may take a bit longer than you'd like
- Be patient with the data Marines
Pros
Great benefits, Proud, paid time off, sucks that I can't think of anymore then this. I used to love being a Marine before it got so full of Politics.
Cons
To much Politics, to many people care about thier careers and themselves, no real team effort.
Not like it used to be. Newcomers think its a game.
Advice to Senior Management
I don't know how to fix the Marine Corps, I became an instructor to try to fix what I was seeing and failed miserably.
Pros
Profossional Growth
Pride of being the Best fighting force in the world.
Long proud histroy.
Great pay and benefits, along with training and travel.
Cons
Long Travel assignments.
Remote assignements.
Limited jobs, as they are civilianized.
Advice to Senior Management
USMC is a reflection of the US society please continue to be the best.
Pros
Benefits are a guarantee, pay raises are a guarantee, world traveling, the pride you get from being a United States Marine is an amazing feeling.
Cons
Bootcamp sucks, 3 months of hell. The training is the best training in the world. Thats exactly what i wanted, but its tough of course.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the Marine Corps spirit, YAT-YAS Semper Fi. I am proud to be a United States Marine. OO Rah!
Pros
It's been an honor to serve my country. I love being a Marine and many of the opportunities that the military has given me.
Cons
Work is very unit dependent. Some units are great while others are extremely difficult. The environment has become extremely political and reactive to everything. Some commanders micromanage every detail of their unit for fear that if a Marine embarrasses their unit and the Corps, the retribution will be irrecoverable.
Advice to Senior Management
Personnel management is difficult. When you spend tons of money to train a Marine to work in a specific MOS, it's foolish and wasteful to put him into a job where he spends 6 months learning what he's supposed to do because it has nothing to do with the job he was trained for.
Pros
Very likely the strongest sense of camaraderie and pride in any organization. High job security. The Post 9-11 can be a huge draw to those wishing to pursue degrees after serving.
Cons
The promotion system needs work. The needs of the Corps will always come first. Marriage status has a significant impact on pay and benefits.
Advice to Senior Management
Officers should seek to gain the respect of their subordinates through their actions and not simply rely on rank. Follow the Marine Corps Leadership principles, specifically, "know your Marines and lookout for their welfare."
Pros
There is plenty of room for growth
Cons
retirement packages are headed downward
there is a sizable downsize ahead
Pros
Challenging, Travel, Pride, Brotherhood, Advancement, Full Benefits - Housing / Food / Dental / Medical / Family, Job Security, Training.
Cons
Long Hours, Deployments, Being Away From Family And Friends, Strict, Structured, Long Contract, Loss Of Freedom, Travel, Combat, Difficult Starting Out.
Advice to Senior Management
Place more emphasis on single service members and stop overly catering to families. Re-work the liberty policy that affects Marine Corps Bases Japan.
Pros
It is very rewarding and a great experience with great opportunities for travel
Cons
Hard Work, not that great of pay for the amount of work you put it
