Pros
Sense of brotherhood. The stability of work and pay check.
Cons
deployments away from your family and timed promotions
Pros
Good pay as officer, make a difference, develop leadership and management skills, rewarding, serve a greater cause, be a part of an elite organization, pride in membership.
Cons
Sometimes dangerous, long hours, deployments- away from family and in austere locations, regular moves, time out of primary job specialty that can adverserly impact advancement opportunities... It's been tough but I'd chose to do it again if I had the choice. It is a life transforming experience that makes one a better person, leader and citizen. It has shaped the person I am today and will no doubt be that which I am most proud of in my life. I do not recommend it for someone who is not committed and dedicated to the ideal of being a Marine.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't save money by cutting back on pay and benefits.
Pros
Great benifits, skills recieved are like no other, I enjoved the brother hood of the Corps better than the Corps itself. Also it teaches young men and woment to become leaders.
Cons
Early days, and late nights. Hours are determined by seniors Marines who some are 26-30 years old and dont have the best leadership skills. It is what you make of it and a lot of people make it harder than it has to be. a lot of time Marines dont use common sense
Advice to Senior Management
When a Marine makes a mistake dont be so hard on him. Especially if its a one time isolated event. If a Marine has been in thriteen years and has not made any mistakes, he shouldnt be punished to the fullest
Pros
On contract for 5 years.
Minimal expenses.
Easy access to work on electronics not common in the civilian world.
Short deployments around the world.
Veterans benefits.
Cons
Lots of people with no ability to do their job.
Controlled life and being treated like children from SNCOICs/Officers.
Lack of ability to quit.
Job training was poor.
Advice to Senior Management
Improve job training.
Fire Marines who cannot do their job.
Treat your Marines as assets not liabilities.
Stop all the accusations and finding people just to blame.
Pros
Good benefits package, job security
Cons
Long hours, no paid overtime, contract
Advice to Senior Management
Take the advice of workers into consideration
Pros
Benefits
Usually don't work weekends
1 hr + lunch breaks
Cons
Rank is everything
Incompetence in coworkers
Horrible promotion system
Get treated like a kid
No communication
Terrible facilities
Advice to Senior Management
Provide more training in specific jobs. Treat lower ranks with respect.
Pros
Job security, teamwork, discipline, lifelong friends
Cons
Too much red tape, has become political
Pros
The Marine Corps is the best possible way to get a real understanding of people at a global level, as you are exposed to all types world wide.
Cons
The Marine Corps is the best possible way to get a real understanding of people at a global level, as you are exposed to all types world wide. The issue is that the hours tend to be horrible from time to time, and the trend is to become overly focused on what you are currently involved in.
Advice to Senior Management
The Marine Corps is the best possible way to get a real understanding of people at a global level, as you are exposed to all types world wide.
Pros
Other Marines, Heritage, Tradition, First to Fight, Leadership, Integrity, Loyalty, Honor, Professionalism, Esprit d' Corps, camaraderie, Endurance, Mission Accomplishment, Pride.
Cons
Every Marine loves the Marine Corps with all their hearts. There are no downsides to the Marines unless you are the enemy.
Advice to Senior Management
Always take care of the Marines in your command; expect the most and demand the best; and ensure that all of your Marines are technically and tactically proficient
Pros
The Marine Corps has amazing perks/opportunities available:
- Tuition assistance of $4,500/year
- GI Bill that paid for a Master's Degree to BU (cost over $60K)
- BEST HEALTHCARE PLAN IN THE WORLD!!
- Opportunity to transfer position after 4 years
- Great retirement package after 20 service
- See different cultures/people
- Be the pride of the U.S. armed forces
Cons
- first couple of years (yrs 1-5) can be extremely challenging due to the manner in which you are treated (like a child)
- potential for extremely long work hours (5am to 5pm or longer)
- work in austere conditions (Afghanistan/Iraq/Africa)
Advice to Senior Management
Better prepare Marines to transition to the corporate world. Too many times I've seen that Marines don't know how to act/work/socialize in a non-military environment -- they were never taught it. Especially in the enlisted side of the house.
