I worked at US Marine Corps

    Pros

Get to serve your country; get respect; GI Bill that pays for your tuition and housing; meet some great people and friends; can retire after 20 years; good benefits.

    Cons

The pay is not good for junior enlisted; decent chance you will get stuck with a jerk supervisor who has full control over your life; decent chance of being stuck in a MOS that does not promote.

    Pros

Free healthcare, housing, good education benefits, and steady pay, you get all federal holidays off and you get 30 paid days off each year.

    Cons

Some of the people are not the most friendly, no flexibility, uncomfortable uniforms, tons of rules and regulations, annual physical trying requirements, and the off chance of being shot at in some horrible country every few years

    Pros

You will see all personality types, make great friends, learn some pretty cool stuff, and great benefits when you get out.

    Cons

The people incharge will treat you like a child for little pay.

    Advice to Management

Look out for your Marines better.

    Pros

I am leaving the Marine Corps after 5 years with a decent benefits package, a number of professional qualifications, and a strong network. This institution has made some positive changes in my life, which I am more than thankful for.

    Cons

There have been times where deployments, stress, and uncertainty were overbearing. There are a number of resources available to ensure that you and your family are taken care of. Do your research before entry to ensure that you don't sign a contract that you won't want to complete.

    Advice to Management

Promote good leaders, and force the bad ones out. There is far too much dead weight in the Corps, and it is dragging the entire organization down.

    Pros

Leadership experience gained is second to none. Very good retirement benefits.

    Cons

    Time away from home.

    Advice to Management

The cookie cutter mold that a Marine Officer faces in order to get promoted past Major actually drives the best and brightest out of the service.

    Pros

The benefits are definitely worth it.

    Cons

If you can deal with bad leadership from time to time and useless tasks, you'll do fine

    Pros

-Amazing people for the most part
-Knowledgeable managers who typically care about how well you do (even if only because it reflects well on them when you perform well)
-Can't beat the pay/benefits when you're a fresh out of high school 18 year old or even in your twenties with no dependents
-Builds good work ethic and general work traits that any employer will look for
-Through all the idiocy, paperwork, and general military BS (surprise inspection!), the Marine Corps really isn't that bad. It is exactly what you make it. If I could go back to my idiot 22 year old self, I would probably have done things differently and stayed in.

    Cons

-Sometime infuriatingly stupid/negligent/unqualified supervisors (just because you ace your PT test doesn't mean you should be NCOIC)
-Limited opportunity for promotion if your MOS is the wrong one (sorry to all you motor T and infantry guys)
-General random military nonsense that makes no sense to you but does make sense to someone else; most ordered chaotic machine ever

    Advice to Management

Stick to your roots and stop being so damn PC. A PC Marine Corps is a weak Marine Corps. You can be a gentleman without giving up your manhood.
