I worked at US Marine Corps

    Pros

The benefits are definitely worth it.

    Cons

If you can deal with bad leadership from time to time and useless tasks, you'll do fine

    Pros

-Amazing people for the most part
-Knowledgeable managers who typically care about how well you do (even if only because it reflects well on them when you perform well)
-Can't beat the pay/benefits when you're a fresh out of high school 18 year old or even in your twenties with no dependents
-Builds good work ethic and general work traits that any employer will look for
-Through all the idiocy, paperwork, and general military BS (surprise inspection!), the Marine Corps really isn't that bad. It is exactly what you make it. If I could go back to my idiot 22 year old self, I would probably have done things differently and stayed in.

    Cons

-Sometime infuriatingly stupid/negligent/unqualified supervisors (just because you ace your PT test doesn't mean you should be NCOIC)
-Limited opportunity for promotion if your MOS is the wrong one (sorry to all you motor T and infantry guys)
-General random military nonsense that makes no sense to you but does make sense to someone else; most ordered chaotic machine ever

    Advice to Management

Stick to your roots and stop being so damn PC. A PC Marine Corps is a weak Marine Corps. You can be a gentleman without giving up your manhood.

    Pros

Excellent travel opportunities, strong camaraderie with fellow Marines, many opportunities for leadership and advancement depending on the effort you put in. You get what you put into the UMSC. If you are not motivated to improve yourself and only put forth the bare minimum of effort you are going to have a bad time. If you put in the effort the USMC will reward you for your hard work and dedication.

    Cons

Lets face it, you are in the USMC. The work life balance is none existent. But that's what you should expect when joining the military.

    Advice to Management

Stop playing politics when you should be focused on fighting and winning wars.

I worked at US Marine Corps full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Friendship, loyalty, duty for the country. You also look real good in the uniforms. You can get what you put in back from pride.

    Cons

Long hours, not much pay, housing is not all that great! The uniforms are a pain to take care of, and there are a lot of micromanagers.

    Advice to Management

Don't keep changing to please everyone! Marines should be Marines, not some choir boy who is afraid to do his duty because everything has been handed to him, and doesn't know what hard work really is.

    Pros

Receive outstanding training and pride in making a difference in defending our country's interest.

    Cons

No one can stay in the Marine Corps forever.

    Advice to Management

Lead from the front, set a positive example, and know your Marines.

    Pros

I am leaving the Marine Corps after 5 years with a decent benefits package, a number of professional qualifications, and a strong network. This institution has made some positive changes in my life, which I am more than thankful for.

    Cons

There have been times where deployments, stress, and uncertainty were overbearing. There are a number of resources available to ensure that you and your family are taken care of. Do your research before entry to ensure that you don't sign a contract that you won't want to complete.

    Advice to Management

Promote good leaders, and force the bad ones out. There is far too much dead weight in the Corps, and it is dragging the entire organization down.

    Pros

Experience in leadership no matter what occupation the Marine Corps offers. I've traveled and seen the other side of the world and have a guaranteed salary.

    Cons

I am far away from my family and friends stationed on the east coast.

    Advice to Management

I am very close to the end of my enlistment and bring good work ethic into the civilian world.

    Pros

Concrete time period of financial stability
    Good networking opportunities
    Free education during and after

    Cons

Although camaraderie is spouted as foremost for fellow Marines, you will get left in the dust if you don't focus only on your own career
