    Cons

Marines on not promoted on merit. It is a dysfunctional bureaucracy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep and value traditions that make Marines Marines. But modernize the way the Corps operates where appropriate.

I worked at US Marine Corps full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Health benefits and steady paycheck. Everything else is pretty easy to overlook from any other point of view.

    Cons

People that are in this company are not there to take care of anyone but themselves. Everything comes at a price.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Retire.

I have been working at US Marine Corps full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay and people are decent and you get to travel regularly. Helps to network if you intend on returning to the civilian workforce. Overall it sets you up for success.

    Cons

You are on salary and sometimes the hours can be very long. You do get to travel a lot but it can be in 6+ month intervals.

    Pros

great benefits, comradery, get to do and learn cool things on a daily basis, travel to places you've never been before

    Cons

leadership is often lacking in common sense, tons of red tape, lots of disenfranchised troops. hours are longer than they need to be in many cases due to the 'hurry up and wait' mentality. pay is pretty crappy.

I worked at US Marine Corps (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Health care / GI bill / steady pay. Chance to travel and get opportunities to advance in the military or civilian sector. You can learn a lot.

    Cons

The Marine Corps is downsizing and I feel that the best Marines are moving on. It seems that the leadership is very disconnected and ineffective. Be ready to average 50+ hour work weeks. (no overtime!)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat the Marines how you would like to be treated.

I worked at US Marine Corps full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The best part was probably travelling. There were also good benefits and lots of fun training.

    Cons

While some of the training was fun, some was a pain in the butt. Sometimes the people you will work with can have bad attitudes, there are a lot of leaders in the military who think you have to yell at everyone and put people down to get them to do what you want.
