Pros
Health care benefits, job security, Post 9/11 GI Bill, Continuing Education

Long work hours, stressfull, competative, do not get paid for overtime
Advice to Senior Management
Don't treat your staff like worker bees and not acknowledge them for their hard work. Be more involved in knowing your junior officers and enlisted members they are the foundation of the organization. Do not tolerate corrupt "good ol boy" behavior especially noted amongst the chiefs mess.
Pros
Training, travel, increasing levels of responsibility.....SERVICE to YOUR Country. work with newest technologies and equipment. Work with finest people concrned with becoming a team. Development of a second family due to the tight nit relationships establish due to the unique job settings
Cons
Time away from family when deployed. Three and four years moves. Multiple deployments. You may be subject to dangerous situations
Advice to Senior Management
Reduce overhead and infrastructure staffing.....Conitnue to provide increased training and responsibility opportunities. Reduce times for senior level staffing and decision making
Pros
There really aren't any fortune 500 companies that will take a random kid off the street and give them such a huge amount of responsibility. Even if you don't plan on making it a career it can really benefit a young person. That wants to get their college paid for.
Cons
Extremely long working hours. Sometimes the leadership is there because they have been around longer and not because they are the most competent.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop spending money on the best weapons systems and use that money to retain the best people.

You can go as far as YOU want to go. You are responsible for your success and failure.

There are so many options available to Sailors; unfortunately most are not pursued – due to lack of knowledge.

Outstanding leadership training which results in outstanding leaders.
Encourages people to take on more responsibilities.
Your career is in your hands. Advancement based on tests and evaluations, not politics.

6 month deployments take you away from family.
Ship gets underway periodically.
Too many review boards to pass making it difficult to stay in for some people.

Less review boards and more opportunities for advancement.
Allow outstanding sailors in overmanned jobs to stay in current job field to remain on active duty.

I learned vaulable skills and had the opportunity to lead a diverse group of outstanding men and women.

The worst thing about the Navy is time spent away from family.

Consider looking beyond the standard times in rate and, instead, have a promotion structure that really is based entirely upon performance, potential, and ability.

Continue to listen to your workers. Spend extra time developing weaker workers until they master their job title.
