Professional growth and advancement are unlimited. The opportunity to travel the world and be a part of a truly outstanding team is one of the biggest pluses of the US Navy.

Advice to Senior Management
Continue selecting the best of the best applicants and never fold to the pressure of quotas. During downsizing do your homework and weed out those who don't offer the best potential for growth.

Advice to Senior Management
Don't forget about the junior sailor and don't focus on stellar performer's. There are numerous amount of people that give everything they have on a daily basis.
Pros
The Navy offers all able bodied citizens the opportunity to improve there professional and leadership experience, it offers education opportunities, and numerous travel opportunities.
Cons
The Navy has ships, ships go out to sea, so you will find yourself away from home for long periods of time. Overall the percentage of travel time, to time at home is similar to that of a busy consultant, but the time away from home is concentrated in increments of 6 months to a year. Besides time away from home, promotion and demotion are VERY bureaucratic and without good management by Chiefs and Officers, the workplace can become a demotivating place for hardworking sailors.
Advice to Senior Management
Set the example with your work ethic, professionalism, and dedication to the mission and your team. Do not tolerate insubordination but also do not treat sailors like cleaning machines.
Pros
Active duty is good for some and not for others. So join the reserves it is easy to go active duty from the reserves, going the other way is very difficult!
Cons
This is a little sarcastic but it's true, "If you want out, we keep you in, if you want in, we kick you out!.
