Pros
your pay is excellent, benefits are unheard of you get to meet new people every day while working outside was nice
Cons
always looking over your shoulder, no respect, management ismore than willing to throw you under the bus to to make themselves look better
Advice to Senior Management
resign, management doesn't make the postal service run it;s the carriers and handlers, we do all the work and they snatch all the credit.
Pros
good working conditions and good exercise lots of pressure to produce on time and make deadlines and production and awesome opportunity to be promoted and to build career
Cons
bad people to work with and managers are bad too poor communication and no reviews standard on call back job replacement indigernous persons not required to
Advice to Senior Management
do more frequent performance reviews that also contain at the very very least the informative feedback provided by the current existing employees who are currently working
Pros
Employees receive excellent benefits and the pay is very good when compared to other data entry jobs. Management works hard to keep the work environment pleasant and casual, and the building and facilities are kept up really well. People are very polite and respectful, including management. The job is very easy and employees always know what to expect. Performance requirements are made very clear and people are given ample opportunity to meet the established goals. Breaks are required and add up to 40 minutes a day, plus 30 minutes for lunch. Management works hard to keep up employee morale. The contract gives full time employees a tremendous amount of job security.
Cons
The job can be very boring. Actually, boring is probably an understatement. You do the exact same thing every single day. There isn't much opportunity for advancement. Not everyone considers it a con, but there is no talking allowed on the workroom floor outside of established talking zones, but people almost never get to sit in them and when you do, if you aren't one of the people talking, it can be very annoying. I've gone multiple days in a row without talking to a single other person at work. Sometimes employees are required to work up to 12 hours, especially in December. Overall, employees have a sense of entitlement that is undeserved, but fostered by the culture and by the APWU contract. The complaining gets really old and is almost always ridiculous.
Pros
good pay benefits and retirement
Cons
just like being in the military
Advice to Senior Management
learn to trust employees
Pros
It is a government job so there are very good benefits if you can make it as a regular employee.
Cons
The older people that work there look down on you because more then likely you took someone else's job and they see you as the enemy.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep to yourself people like to be in your personal business and they gossip a lot. As far as your work as long as you work very fast and efficient you will be okay.
Pros
its a good start job if you are just entering the work world. Don't stay too long because there are better opportuinities else where
Cons
Promotion, traing is terrible. Who is leadership?
Advice to Senior Management
Look at barganing unit for promotion. There is many good ideals from people who work the mail.
Pros
Benefits, Pay, potential for promotion.
Cons
Long Hours. Earn lots of leave...but can't use it. Very stressfull.
Pros
Great benefits and reasonable pay.
Cons
The leadership is now trying hard to turn this massive ship, but they are controlled by ludicrous legislation and a sleeping congress, strangling collective agreements, and a seriously aging workforce. Many of the long term employees have never had to work very hard to accomplish their goals and it shows in their lack of work ethic and creativity.
Advice to Senior Management
Get out from under the idiotic federal legislation, eliminate the unions, and then do a huge retirement incentive to get rid of all those old codgers in management that have constipated the road to success.
Pros
Job security is good as long as you do your job and dont get caught up with the other employees complaints and issues. Pay and benefits are good.
Cons
They own you and you will work whenever and whereever they want you to work or wahtever they want you to do.
Pros
Good pay, good benefits, thank god for our uniion. If you;ve been there awhile and are not afraid to file grievances, you can survive here.
Cons
Treated like dirt. It's no coincidence that people "go postal." In nearly 30 years I have NEVER seen anyone promoted because he/she worked hard and did a good job. All about "brown-nosing."
Advice to Senior Management
Respect and listen to your employees.
