Pros
The money is good. It is nice to work outside the office. You build great relationships with the customers. It keep you in great physical shape.
Cons
The whole thing is disfunctional. Nothing makes sense. You can see the money wasting away with every outdated proceedure.
Advice to Senior Management
Privitize. It is too far gone to recover. The struggle with the union doesn't allow you any managaterial say.
Pros
vacation Sick leave holidays co-workers
Cons
management supervisors oig 204bs postmasters
Advice to Senior Management
require IQ TEST TO GET PROMOTED
Pros
Pay is Great
Get to work outdoors with no supervision
Uniforms are paid for through an allowance every six months
Cons
Regular employees are lazy and you will end up doing most of their work
Supervisors give praise, but you're only as good as your last day
No benefits, steady hours, or job security
Chances are you will be treated better if you are a woman or a minority
Regular carriers are sometimes hostile towards you because you work too fast or take overtime from them
Advice to Senior Management
Any advice I give would be pointless because the union stops management from making any meaningful changes. The inmates run the asylum at USPS and as a TE you will not be privy to the benefits enjoyed by all the career employees. There is little management can do and whenever they try it's met with fierce resistance.
Pros
salary and benefits were what everyone lived and worked for.
Cons
everything is negative. You are expected to do your job and do it. No pat on the back.
Do your job the wrong way someone hounds all the time.
Advice to Senior Management
reconsrtuct from the top down
Pros
Great hourly pay. If your a career employee then you have job security. Coworkers have a great sense of teamwork. Coworkers will help you achieve your tasks. No competition in that area.
Cons
Stay away from contract positions. They may be attractive with pay/hr, but you have no senority and not even a guarantee of future work. Management is downsizing and every one is trying to keep their positions so guess where the buck stops?
Advice to Senior Management
Hire only supervisors who have actually carried mail. Seek to understand the load of the carrier and communicate the actual load in your daily report instead of trying to pad your numbers to make yourself look good and the carrier look pathetic.
Pros
The Postal Service provides decent starting wages with incremental increases over time. The benefits of health and life insurance and Thrift Savings Plan (401K) have been excellent.
Cons
Unfortunately, the future of the Postal Service looks bleak. It's decline in profitability and increased financial burden to prepay future retirement benefits is causing innumerable facility shutdowns and consolidation of operations. Many jobs are being lost.
Pros
Great Benifits, plenty of vacation and sick time. Flexibly schedule when needed with understanding management. Opportunities to increase income with overtime offered.
Cons
One of the biggest cons with working for the united states postal service were the early hours, with my tour begining at 3:30am.
Advice to Senior Management
I think one of the biggest pieces of advice I could give to Postal Management is to be more in tune with employees needs but also achievements.
Pros
The pay. Benefits. Some of the people.
Cons
Management. Decision Making. Monotonous. Hard on your body.
Pros
Much training rpovided by IBM. All paid. Latest and greatest IT technology.
Cons
Not flexible about time. Can only work w/in window of time. They will never allow IT people to telecommuet ever. Its too bad...we can do the same thing and more from home.
Advice to Senior Management
Opportunities to advance. But if you take a management position called EAS position you cannot be part of the APWU union which is great. And management can force you to travel.
Pros
The postal service has an excellent pay and benefits package for the amount of education and training you need for the job.
Cons
Under constant time pressure. Management often directs employees to do the impossible in the amount of time allowed. Low morale of employees. Little to no positive job recognition or positive feedback. Most jobs are very repetitive and monotonous. Poor working conditions. No positive incentives to improve job performance. Workforce is being reduced, increasing the already high workload on individual employees. Not a fun place to work.
Advice to Senior Management
Value your employees. Offer incentives for good job performance. Treat employees with respect. Give employees enough time to do a good job.
