Good company to work for, salary vs. work time was very fair. I had a long and fruitful career with the company.

Circulation Manager (Former Employee) Saint Louis, MO

ProsA fast-paced environment with daily challenges and successes.

ConsA declining industry and today's management tends to view everything through a spreadsheet.

Advice to Senior ManagementSpend less time looking at spreadsheets and more time talking to your people.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend

    Decent first job

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsSeems like the leadership has improved recently, but there are still issues
It's a national news organization, and from that perspective is exciting

ConsGannett as a company is just terrible to its employees
USAT has no idea what it wants to be, so it flounders a little

    Graphic Design Intern

Graphic Design Intern (Former Employee) McLean, VA

ProsMeaningful work for the interns, treated as valued member of collective creative team. Great location and building for the DC Metro Area. Food is good and gym in the office is nice.

ConsSometimes work is less than glamorous but that comes with the internship territory. Sometimes projects can drag on for a bit.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't let the USAT brand stagnate back into what it was before the rebrand, keep pushing.

    Big brand. Tons of incompetence.

Director (Former Employee) New York, NY

ProsNot many. Pay was pretty decent. Office space was nice. But I need more than that.

ConsManagement really does not understand digital. There's little to no room for new ideas and thinking. Lack of technology expertise holds the company back in a major way. The "C" students typically stick around and put up with it. The "A" students need more opportunities and decide to move on eventually.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't hire your friends for big positions, just because they're your friends. Hire competent, exceptional talent that can get the job done.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Headline: Newspapers are on the way out!

District Sales Manager (Former Employee) Pleasanton, CA

ProsNice fellow employees, weekends off, major holidays off. If you like looking over your shoulder and wondering if you are next...this is the place for you!

ConsYoung people are not buying newspapers--and so you are just servicing folks over 65 and the industry is dead.

Advice to Senior ManagementFind a new job
