Pros
Flexible schedules, excellent pay and benefits, CEO is constantly praising the organization results.
Cons
Long, busy, demanding, management says one thing and expects another-we should work for commission based on the way our performance is measured. They claim to promote from within yet more jobs are recruited externally than internally which is very frustrating. Getting beat down by management on a weekly basis is very discouraging.
Advice to Senior Management
Be more realistic with employees. We get a lot of perks, but we don't make commission.
Pros
Great benefits
Nice Christmas Bonus
Beautiful Facility with nice cafeteria and Starbucks
Company that really cares about its members and employees
Cons
Low pay
High expectations of sales, even though they say that you are not judged on sales numbers
Difficult to plan anything after work since you get calls up until time you are scheduled to get off
Very strict scheduling - your lunch and breaks are all assigned to you and if you have to go to bathroom in between your "phone effectiveness" is lowered and you get coaching
Advice to Senior Management
Give employees some time off of phones from time to time
Don't judge how well employees are performing based on sales number - a lot of times the rep is helping the member in another way even if they aren't selling another product.
Pros
Salary structure - base salary plus bonuses could not be matched in area
Cons
work product was never enough to satisfy management, employees constantly under a great deal of stress and pressure to resolve claims and sell products/services
Pros
Great benefits, including a stellar 401k package, onsite fitness centers, Starbucks, cafeteria, recreation fields, etc.
Get to work with smart individuals who are dedicated to the mission of serving our mission and focused on delivering the deadlines (even if that means staying after 5 p.m. or working odd hours)
Cons
It's a big company and sometimes the politics are overwhelming. Definitely have to learn how to overcome that. All in all, Senior Management favors certain individuals for promotion over others too.
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on talent and results of employees, rather than "likeability" or other biased factors when it comes to promotion and recognition.
Pros
Pride in the mission of facilitating the financial security of the member. smart motivated people. Little acceptance for slackers. Nice benefits. Aggressive, can do attitude. Relentless focus on the satisfaction of the member.
Cons
High expectations of employees, including long hours. Hard to get a word in edge wise in meetings due to the high intensity work style of the employee base. could do a bit better job respecting diversity (surface differences and under the surface differences)
Pros
It has great medical, health as well as retirement benefits. USAA also pays for its employees to purse higher education that translated into career advancement opportunities.
Cons
Signing up for time off consists of you the employee planning almost a year in advance and is based on seniority.
Advice to Senior Management
They should take a closer look at other companies that have sucesgully balanced the procedure for employee paid time off.
Pros
good benefits and job stability
Cons
can get stuck in a role for a while. hard to move into other departments.
Advice to Senior Management
act on employee feedback for improvement
Pros
The buildings have starbucks, Cafeteria, Cafe, Gym, Mothers nursing room, games, etc
Cons
Sometimes you have to work long hours and it is more of a call center job if you are in Phoenix.
Pros
Job growth and opportunities abound. Great mentor program, and training opportunities. Awesome benefits package with great bonuses. Overall a great place to work.
Cons
Once people get in at USAA they tend to stay, on average over 15 years, so career advancement could take awhile.
Pros
Use to be a good company to work for. Now it's just another company. Benefits are ok, pay is ok.
Cons
This place really has gone down hill. It use to be the best employer in town. That was a long time ok. They will let their most experienced employee's go and replace them with cheaper ones or contractors. They talk a great game but there employees for the most part are very unhappy working there. Managers that are inept are not let go, but are allowed to kill the morale of employees. Forget about going to HR to complain, they really are not there for you. If you do complain expect to be escorted out of the building by security guards. I have to laugh every time I see a USAA commercial. Lots of room for improvement at this company.
Advice to Senior Management
Really see what is going on inside the company. Review why your employees are leaving one way or the other. Don't blindly trust managers.
