Equal opportunity, work/life balance is encouraged, very competitive salaries.

    Cons

The campus in San Antonio can be difficult to navigate.

I have been working at USAA full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Caring Leadership
Clear Mission of taking care of our military and their families.
    Job with meaning and purpose.
    Outstanding benefits and pay.
Best culture you will ever find. CEO truly cares for employees.
    Your feedback matters.

    Cons

Phoenix promotional opportunities limited to call center unless able to relocate to San Antonio. Reason I left after 15 years of employment.
    Work can become monotonous.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

So sad to hear of General Robles retirement but so blessed to have worked with him. Have been with USAA through several CEO's starting with General Herres and loved them all so keep with the caring culture. Please look at increasing variety of opportunities for mid management to avoid complacency and possibility of losing good people due to limited opportunities.

I have been working at USAA full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Over the moon employee engagement, Superior reputation and integrity, Decision making autonomy, Decidedly important mission, National leader in military hiring practices and sharing those out with other employers, Amazing campuses including fitness, clinic, cafeterias, sport parks

    Cons

Nope. It is a culture of open discussion which empowers the ability to uncover potential growth areas and then, we work on them as a team for the collective good of the whole. Take for example remote opportunities. USAA doesn't have a reputation for being particularly remote worker savvy, but we're working to change that and expanding the necessary capabilities to enable that growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep talking to us! Stay engaged and human and continue to cast above reproach shadows of the leader for us to follow.

    I worked at USAA

    Pros

Mission is great, people are great, work-life balance is great.

    Cons

Leadership development is non-existent. Most development is non-existent. Senior leaders are afraid to make decisions so everyone has to approve of a course of action before proceeding which slows the entire process and frustrates the employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Assign someone responsible for the final decision and let them make it without fear of retribution.

Former Employee - Financial Advisor in San Antonio, TX

I worked at USAA full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The company has a mission to serve the military community and they really really work hard to do it. USAA does a great job of balancing being a big bank powerhouse, while also, trying to do what's best for it's members.

    Cons

The culture is very conservative and there isn't a lot of room to work outside of the structure they have implemented. If you are someone who seeks flexibility and creativity, this may not be the best company for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what you are doing, in terms, of catering to what's right for our members. At the same time, the world is constantly changing and evolving and it's important to entertain fresh perspectives, to keep up.
