    Pros

Coworkers were friendly and hardworking. The location by Union station is convenient.

    Cons

Annual rounds of lay offs. Every time a quarterly number is missed, the only strategy is to layoff more people. Little job security. It isn't clear how they can compete given all the debt that they need to pay off.

    Advice to Management

Plan out resource needs so we aren't hiring staff one week and laying off the next. The L&W business unit and manufacturing need to work as a team.

  2. They really don't care about their employees as long as they get their money, avoid this company.

    Pros

Good place if you are planning to retire in less than five years.
You can be invisible and avoid work if you keep your mouth shut during meetings.
War rooms are management staff having free lunch and surfing the internet.
Able to negotiate salary and 3-4 weeks PTO if you are coming from consulting.

    Cons

Company income based on only a few products.
Directors or above are robbing the company.
    Traditional sweat shop concept.
    Management is a joke.
Preferred hiring outside contractors and no internal promotions unless you have connections.
No merit increase for a few years
Only lower level employees doing all the work.
    Dead end career path.
Try to run IT as a business but ending up as a joke because of management failure.
Other departments refused to work with IT because IT is always over promised and under delivered. Plus most staff is clueless of what they are doing because of high turnover rate.
    Benefits are going downhill.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work (#sarcastic). Enjoy while you can.

    Pros

Okay benefits. Good people at plants.

    Cons

Too centralized. They have gotten rid of most of the people at the plants who knew what they were doing and were doing the actual work. Zero loyalty to long term employees who have made many sacrifices for the company. Sent most financial work to unqualified people in India who are doing a terrible job and angering vendors, while eliminating 100s of American jobs. Upper management and corporate have cultivated a culture of secrecy, fear and paranoia. Information dissemination to employees whose job are affected is unprofessional and very late and slow.

    Advice to Management

You should value employees who have gotten you where you are today instead of replacing them with low paid poorly trained robots from other countries who don't know what they are doing, and then blaming the employees you are eliminating for not making your poorly trained robot's jobs easy enough that they never have to think. You have destroyed what was good about the company. Company name is now ironic.

    Pros

Decent pay..paid weekly..meet some cool people

    Cons

Where do i begin..Usg east chicago plant is the worst..in board and jt deparments they hire all LAZY PEOPLE and they do nothing at work for 12 hours.but they try to use the hell out of people who do try to come to work n work. they equipment is old n breaks down all day. Everyday they have the same problems or new ones.makes a 12hour day so hard..they dont care at all..mangement sucks..Hr doesnt care.the formen sit in the office all day on facebook n craiglist. instead of getting the lazy ppl to work.the current supervisor is scary..Sacred of his employees the ppl who dont be working or doing anything all day he dont say anything to them but constatly tells the good workers to do everything..the department manager doesnt care either he runs several departments so he doesnt have time..no life to work balance.then you are told you have to work on a day you was off at the last minute..they pay should be higher to work here considering the equipment is out of date and breaks down all day long..everyone is scared to speak up if you do your a target..i would not try to get anyone to work here. WORST PLACE TO WORK..they treat ppl terrible.they dont train u properly they use to now training is relieving someone for break .something goes wrong that person doesnt even know what too do. they have their favorites..all the ppl who are lazy. i see why ppl who been here 10yrs or more come in and say they quit..this company needs to be fair n hire better ppl also if you are late all the time you wont get fired until you have been late about 30 times they dont stick to the policy. They dont listen to you and they dont care about you bottom line.

    Advice to Management

Do you know how the equipment runs in e.c. indiana..probably not huh? The hiring process needs to be more strict..hiring overweight ppl for jobs that reqiure ppl to do heavy lifting and being able to move fast but safetly is not good..and the lazy ppl why do usg keep these ppl who are non productive..someone needs to come out as a undercover boss to see whats going on..secert cameras need to be put up so it can be shown whos here to work and whos not..i dont mind working hard..thats what i come to work to do ..but y should i when the lazy ppl..is patted on the back all the time..REALLY USG REALLY??

    Pros

The pay and benefits are OK. Really good if you want to work at night and go to college during the day because they will pay for your tuition. Good safety programs, however employees are rarely involved in their implementation which makes everyone unhappy if normal practice has to be changed.

    Cons

Too many changes happens on a daily basis, whatever management wants it will be done regardless of what employees think or their input.
Management is so fake, they tell you,
'feel free to tell us your opinions we will listen' but at the same time they avoid those that raise good questions and concerns in the meetings.
The supervisory team is so biased, you cant move up to the next levels unless they like you. No equal opportunities for advancement.

    Advice to Management

Open your eyes guys (management) we are very unhappy out here on the floor. We won't say anything because of fear of retaliation through layoffs. Think about this, most people have resorted to going back to school while others are investing their hard earned money in buying lottery tickets, as groups, in hopes that they can walk away from the misery. That should tell you how bad people want out but the only thing stopping them from leaving is the money. Compensation alone has never motivated people, remember from your management courses if you took any.
Really won't be a bad job if you just want to go to college and leave after wards, I heard it will be more like a full ride scholarship.
