I have been working at USI Insurance Services full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

I have a profound amount of respect for the talent and wonderful people in this company, especially the management team. They care about employes and making this company successful. The work is dynamic and challenging and you couldn't work with better people, hands down.

    Cons

The pace can be rapid fire and you have to be able to manage in that environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate as much as you can to employees. Strengthen the USI brand. Employees should take pride in working for USI and this management team.

    Pros

The employees here are nice and helpful. Depending on your department and manager, some are flexible with your time and may allow you to work remotely depending on your circumstances.

    Cons

Lower end of pay scale. Very few people receive bonuses. The people who management like will most likely receive bonuses. If you are not favored by management then I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a raise or bonus. High turnover rate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat and give all employees the same benefits. And if you are their manager, lead by example. Don't yell at an employee for coming late if you come in late yourself.

I worked at USI Insurance Services full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    Offered OK benefits
Vacation time starts at 3 weeks in your first year
Several paid holidays, including Christmas Eve and Black Friday

    Cons

    Unrealistic expectations from management
Managers would dock you for working overtime, not taking a lunch break, or not getting your work completed by the time you were scheduled to leave. This policy was NOT adjusted when work load was heavier.
Management had WAY too much micro-managing going on. This was so much of a problem that it got in the way of efficiency and completing tasks on time.
    No growth potential.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop micro-managing. Adjust your expectations and make them known. Treat your employees with respect.

    Pros

They have flex hours. 2 more holidays than most companies. Staff teams all worked well together and got along. They pay pretty well.

    Cons

The book size they expect Account Managers to service is almost double the industry average because the only thing USI looks at is the bottom line. They don't take in to account the complexity or "neediness" of each client. If you can't work fast and work late frequently, it's tough to get all your work done. Also, the Sales Reps are allowed by management to make ridiculous/unattainable promises to clients instead of sticking to established procedures. There are a number of Sales Reps in the Irvine office who are incredibly difficult to work with; micromanagers, poor communication skills, condescending (you're my personal secretary). There is no formal training program, so you should already know what you're doing, or you will struggle.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maybe Senior Mgmt should spend less time figuring out how they can make their next personal $10M by going public or private, and give a little more thought to the employees who they literally work to the point of burn out because there are not enough employees to handle the work load. But hey, the operating costs sure look low! They don't seem to care about losing good, long.term employees because there is always someone desperate, looking for a job and willing to work any hours to get it.

    Pros

Company has a great teamwork environment and decent advancement opportunities.

    Cons

High turnover, low salary, and work week only 37.5 hrs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maintain dedicated hard working employees with competitive industry salaries instead of a high revolving door.

I worked at USI Insurance Services full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Was close to where I lived.

    Cons

No work/life balance. Worked for them for 11 years. Basically worked 24/7 - at times worked at night. Management could ask for a report at 6 pm on Tuesday and expect it 7 am next Wednesday. Had to cancel vacations because management said so. People were hired in busy period and then literally dumped when work flow slowed down.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop lying to employees that they valuable. Management does not care about staff. Get rid of CFO at Norfolk, VA accounting center. He is biased and discriminates against women and non-Caucasians.

    Pros

Flexibility, forward thinking company that allows you to use creativity to solve complex problems. No "cookie cutter" deliverables. Each client is treated individually with their unique needs addressed.

    Cons

Salary not really commensurate with knowledge or education specifically if you grow through promotions, promotion salary upgrades are more based on current salary vs. job performed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to be more in line with the market by way of salaries. Without annual pay raises when a promotion comes to someone the increase to pay should be in line with the work performed.
