I have been working at UT Dallas part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

This job is helping me afford college! Huzzah!

The hours are extremely flexible, and my boss is always very understanding whenever I have classes or homework. The atmosphere is very relaxed, as well.

Also: Since I live on campus, so I don't have to spend any money on gas! A major plus. Work is only a five minute bike ride away.

    Cons

I have heard that parking can be a problem if you are a commuter.

Also, it can be kind of hard to snag an on campus job if you're not a work-study student. It takes some patience and luck.

Because I'm a work-study student, there's a limit to the number of hours I can work a week (they try to ration out your pay). It's usually not a problem, but it can get kind of funky when working out schedules sometimes.

    Pros

Benefits, colleagues, the campus, conveniences and holidays time off.

    Cons

Lack of training/communication and working with faculty

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Favoritism should not be so obvious. Employee loyalty should be recognized.

I have been working at UT Dallas part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

For most of the courses, you don't need to provide more than 10 hours/week. It is good for PhD students who are also involved to do research.

    Cons

There are lots of papers you need to submit/fill in each semester. It is little bit hectic.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Online documentation for all works can improve the process and can save time.

I worked at UT Dallas as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Very laid back, comfortable, and results oriented work environment where as long as your work is complete by the due date and time it doesn't necessarily matter what you do on a day to day basis. You'll work with fellow talented friendly employees who are all more than talented and skilled at what they do.

    Cons

Some of the management was kind of a mess. At times, there seemed to be a lack of concern for the employees' well being and more focus on whatever project you are currently working on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen more and trust your employees and their willingness to help your projects succeed.
