Positive experience but could be better

Research Scientist (Current Employee) Dallas, TX

ProsEach department/laboratory are very different and overall UTSW is a great place to conduct basic research. However, in my opinion the most well-funded labs have emphasis in translational studies due to the close relationship with the surrounding medical centers.

ConsWithin the basic sciences, it is very difficult to advance higher. Salaries are not competitive enough with respect to other academic institutions, however they have great medical/dental benefits.

    Both good and bad

Senior Administrative Assistant (Current Employee) Dallas, TX

ProsThe pro to this place is great insurance benefits

ConsThe department I work in had become a joke. In the past 3-4 years this department has consistently gone down hill. We have people coming and going faster than anything I have ever seen. I don't necessarily think UT is bad overall, but stay away from OB/Gyn

Advice to Senior ManagementGet a new department manager

    No life balance

Research Assistant I (Former Employee) Dallas, TX

ProsWorld class reputation. Very famous in the medical, biological research field.

ConsUTSW is a very boring place. In a lot of the labs, there is no life balance. Student and Post-Doctors work day and night.

Advice to Senior ManagementHost more activities to let the student and post doctors to relax.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Ok place to work

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Dallas, TX

ProsUTSW provides excellent training for new employees. They have an excellent leadership program for managers. Also provide excellent insurance/retirement benefits.

ConsBeing a government entity there is so much red tape and people to go thru to get anything done in a timely manner.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe transparent and truthful! Don't allow rumors to run rampant all over campus.
