    Pros

In research you have some freedom to do what you like. Very diverse culture with lots of people from different countries working here.

    Cons

Lots of red tape. Takes forever to get tasks done. English is a large portion of peoples second language so getting points across can take a while.

I have been working at UT Southwestern Medical Center full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Each department/laboratory are very different and overall UTSW is a great place to conduct basic research. However, in my opinion the most well-funded labs have emphasis in translational studies due to the close relationship with the surrounding medical centers.

    Cons

Within the basic sciences, it is very difficult to advance higher. Salaries are not competitive enough with respect to other academic institutions, however they have great medical/dental benefits.

    Pros

World class reputation. Very famous in the medical, biological research field.

    Cons

UTSW is a very boring place. In a lot of the labs, there is no life balance. Student and Post-Doctors work day and night.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Host more activities to let the student and post doctors to relax.
