I have been working at UTC Aerospace Systems full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Lots of people have been there since the building was Perkin Elmer, and they'll tell you all about its history. The work that's been done in the building has been extremely important to the United States and it has a well-deserved reputation.

My department was run well and all the supervisors were hard workers and aware of everything that was happening under their noses.

    Cons

I came in with a substantial amount of technical knowledge and experience with satellite electronics, and yet I've been pigeonholed into glorified document control. I don't get to use any of my lab experience or integration and test acumen unless I kick in someone's door and there's literally no one else available to do the job. The "organizational goals" of UTC involve people staying within strict lane lines concerning their job description and stepping no further.

There's zero upward mobility. Neither I nor anyone on my team will ever get promoted while at UTC. When higher-ups depart, change departments, or retire, outsiders are brought in or the organizational chart is reworked so that the remaining heads get more underlings, thus exacerbating the already prevalent problem of overdrawing our resources.

Since I was hired at UTC, I've learned absolutely nothing except procedures unique to UTC protocols. That's it. It's very, very difficult to be given work that requires learning to do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more people and tell UTC that their organizational goals can suck it. Move the building to someplace less soul-sucking than Danbury, Connecticut.

    Pros

Best job (Mechanical Design Engineer) I have ever had. Very flexible schedule, challenging work environment but the outcomes are well worth it.

    Cons

Slow computer network and bad IT help, they have been merging and what not therefor their internal systems have been changing which has been a slow process.

I have been working at UTC Aerospace Systems full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

My experience with Goodrich for the first two years was enjoyable working in IT with a great manager and helpful team of coworkers. I also met and worked with many good people both on site, in US, Canada and across the globe.

    Cons

A year after UTC purchased Goodrich, the IT employees were either outsourced to CSC or laid off with few exceptions. Although the severance package was fair, it would have been nice to at least work for CSC.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

IT support outsourced to CSC causes more delays, frustration and cost.

    Pros

It was a great learning environment and the people that I worked with made it easy to come into work.

    Cons

The changing of projects changes as much as the wind which really makes it difficult to get anything completed.

    Pros

It is a very challenging place to intern, but well worth it if you are willing to work hard.

    Cons

Very stressful and time consuming (goes over 40hrs/week), you get out of it what you put into it.

    Pros

Learned a lot of useful skills
A lot of exposure if your a HQ
    Environment filled with thinkers

    Cons

    It can be challenging
Some areas of the business can be understaffed so prepare to work
ACE, I do not think it is a good use of resources

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Everything is good but to be great learn more about what employees want, make a suggestion box or something to spread ideals.

I have been working at UTC Aerospace Systems full-time

    Pros

The pay is decent compared to industry standards

    Cons

There is no talent management, no leadership development, no motivation for people to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop your people and stop external hires when there are interns, co-ops, and full-time employees right under your nose that can do the job. Convert your co-ops or you've just trained the competition.

I worked at UTC Aerospace Systems full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Variety of work going on

    Cons

Shifts employees around. Employee treated as a metric/number.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The monthly financial crisis where you shift employees on different project for review recognition is strictly a gimmick. No real work can be done in 2-3 weeks on a new project. This is poor leadership
