I worked at Uni-Select full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The individuals and customers that make up the Uni-Select network are amazing.
The daily work was satisfying and challenging.

    Cons

Communication from upper management down to employees was mediocre. The rumor mill would inform employees of company changes weeks before upper management would; this lead to good employees leaving due to the fear of company changes before upper management could explain happenings.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more open with employees regarding changes. Don't leave unqualified or underperforming employees in positions just because they have been with the company for a long time.

I have been working at Uni-Select full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Friendly bosses and staff with great attitude and generally understanding on personal situations. The bosses work hard and seem to have us in mind and allow a lot of opportunities but seem a little too relaxed with firing staff.

    Cons

The only cons are that some of the workers have some issues with hygiene and soberness. and that they pay is quite low.

    Pros

Challenging and nice people. Lot's of responsability.

    Cons

Union is strong (too strong). Some manager needs more maturity.

    I worked at Uni-Select

    Pros

Big company wih some perks (cheaper auto parts, etc.) and they have an array of locations. HQ is in Boucherville QC. Very useful for people wanting to avoid the commute to Montreal. My manager was good, but many people criticized decisions of higher management. I can't really comment on these since I was not high enough in the company ... but at my level, I was not affected by these 'bad decisions'. I liked my experience and it allowed me to gain a lot of new skills I can now apply in my career. Would recommend this company to job seekers! Co-workers are very helpful and ressourceful if you need help or have questions regarding new applicaions (softwares) or etc.

    Cons

Some people were critical of higher management and their 'bad decisions'. At my level in he company (very low! lol), I couldn't not really see the impact of these decisions nor could I say if they were right or wrong. However, that many complaints from co-workers can become tiring and repetitive. Lunches wih my manager and one of her friends were basically just ranting sessions about management. From my end, I don't really have any other feedback. My experience was overall very good and as I mentioned, I was able to learn a few new things at the company, which is a great plus.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Does not apply.

Current Employee - Warehouseman in Upper Marlboro, MD

I have been working at Uni-Select full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Solid Teamwork for the most part but we are a new warehouse and we are told the only one of it's the only one of it's kind.

    Cons

This company is too concerned with keeping part time staffers from getting more than 25 hrs and full time from getting more than 40. Nine new stores have been added since we opened for business but we are actually expected to meet the delivery schedule with fewer employees than we started with.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop Micro managing and get out of the way, trust your experienced staff to set the example and bring new hires up to speed. It will boost morale and and enhance teamwork.

I worked at Uni-Select full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Uniselect provided me with an opportunity to gain industry experience. Local control of operation has helped grow this company over time. Many employees were good people with tremendous experience.

    Cons

New SAP platform has severely challenged morale and stability. Board has changed leadership way too frequently, seemingly blaming them for performance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It was not your employees fault that operations have deteriorated. Your system (SAP) is seriously flawed. Be honest with employees, firing several hundred people and calling it unlocking shareholder value is absurd.
