I have been working at Unilever full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The organization puts development and performance both as priorities, so the training programs are great quality and encouraged by management. There is also exposure to international markets and cross-functional development. Compensation is competitive but could be better. Benefits are great, allowing for employees to purchase discounted shares to UL stock.

    Cons

There is a lot of bureaucracy and decisions take time to execute, however there is work being done to simplify processes. Work life balance is not great, but the simplification work down the line looks promising for positive changes.

I have been working at Unilever full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great company values, work-life balance, flexible work schedules and comprehensive medical benefits. Lots of opportunities for movement within different departments. Onsite gym and vitality trail around the campus.

    Cons

Compensation could be higher, internal employees seem to get less pay for the same rolls versus an outside hire. The yearly increase is very low and not in line with inflation. There is a lot politics and upper management takes too long to make decisions.

I have been working at Unilever full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

There are some really great but over-worked people in the organization.

    Cons

    1) There is no work-life balance here. Working early in the morning, through lunch, into the night, at night, and on weekends on a regular basis is the norm. While some areas fortunately do not reap these benefits many unfortunately do. The only upside is least some of these times are working from home but when you are working at 1 am at home that is the least of your problems.
    2) Meetings on top of meetings. There are meetings to discuss meetings many of which do not add any value at all.
    3) With all the re-organization of late roles have become more "challenging and competitive" basically taking on the responsibility of the reformed organization to see who best can manage the responsibility of 4-5 roles in 1.
    4) Individuals have no say as to where they can go in the organization it is decided by management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Numerous talented employees have been leaving on their own accord and management keeps coming back asking why. When value-added work is being completed and individuals have more than a modicum of life outside of work they would be happy to stay.

    Pros

Work-life balance, Ability to work from home

    Cons

HR gives inaccurate benefits information upon being hired (specifically regarding tuition reimbursement), Onboarding process is horrible, Little opportunity for development opportunities/courses to take to improve in critical skills, Almost no focus on diversity and inclusion, Business is measured to unrealistic targets, Extermely top-down focused

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't tell people you're extending offers to lies about benefits.
Set realistic expectations and targets for the various funcional groups.

    Pros

Great place for learning and development; Proven frameworks in the marketing function that will benefit you as a Brand person at any company; Great brands; A competitive environment in that the company wants to win in the categories it is playing in - an exciting time to be at this company; a lot of room for development and diversity in experience; Work/life balance depends on how big of a priority your category is and your manager

    Cons

Big company with a lot of networks and it can sometimes be difficult to navigate; Another general con of a big company is that it can sometimes be a longer time to wait for a promotion

I have been working at Unilever full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

If you have Unilever on your resume, it opens up lots of doors the rest of your career. World class marketing company that chapters are written on in b-school textbooks. Recruiters are always knocking on your door. When people were nervous about an announced upcoming reorg, many were able to find new jobs elsewhere within a month before any formal decisions were made. A few years at Unilever makes you a very desirable candidate.

Good work environment- lots of friendly and incredibly smart people, cool company events and perks from time to time, and satisfaction of working for a company that generally tries to lead and do the right thing in terms of sustainability and ethical decision making. There aren't Google-level free perks, but the company generally does pretty well for everybody.

Work life balance is generally outstanding, and makes for a very comfortable work experience for most.

    Cons

Massive bureaucracy of a global company, can be difficult to get to the bottom of things. The first time you have an IT issue, you'll learn this quickly as you languish for days, weeks as you get passed off from contact to contact around the world. You'll be expected to hit the ground running in many roles with little onboarding, so be prepared.

If you have high ambitions, there is only so far you can go in the US since HQ is in Europe. There are international opportunities, but they generally don't go to US managers. As a result, US can get very top-heavy with management, which results in periodic reorgs every so often.
