I have been working at Unilever (Less than a year)

    Pros

There are a lot of people who work here and do a good job despite the lack of processes and direction given by managers

    Cons

Low salaries, no processes. Requirements from senior managers at odds to how organisation works do can not support senior management direction

    Advice to Management

More needs to be done to support the actual work being done. IT delivery is very complex and does not have the right foundations in place to support actual delivery.

I worked at Unilever as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very nice place to work. Friendly environment with a community feel. Given a lot of responsibility which looks great on my CV. My Manager was very supportive and helpful.

    Cons

Hard to get a permanent position. My Manager tried to get me a permanent position but there was a lot of redundancies going on at the time and it was not possible.

    Advice to Management

Some office politics went on but that seems to happen everywhere nowadays.

I worked at Unilever full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    - Great attention to employees. - Many development chances if you are flexible and seek opportunities. - Global so opportunities to move around.

    Cons

    - IT has been mostly outsourced so opportunities are less. Seek Architecture or Process types of jobs. - Felt leadership was becoming too aggressive. - Bigger jobs, bigger responsibilities, bigger nightmares...

    Advice to Management

    - Too much "ham effect" at manager and director levels. - Lack of clarity and resources to achieve your goals.

I worked at Unilever full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Illusion of job security may be of some comfort.

    Cons

You'll always find the outsourcing or removal of your role to be a target for higher management bonuses

    Advice to Management

No one really buys your phoney rhetoric. We understand you have to pretend.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Relaxed working environment, but very professional at finishing their work. Easily attracts best talent out of University and have a good sense of global recruiting. Leverage of being a multinational offers great opportunities for development. Big push to move East and therefore it would help if you would be interested to at least spend 2-3 years somewhere in the East (China/India). Work/life balance is excellent, and especially in the UK, nice holiday allowance (5 weeks).

    Cons

Way too big -- difficult to make a big impact. Bureaucratic at times and so can get sometimes stuffy for young people as there is not great support for new ideas or moving things quickly.

    Advice to Management

    Support for new R&D structure
