Current Employee - Category Manager in Leatherhead, England (UK)

I have been working at Unilever full-time

    Pros

Improved performance focus over the last couple of years. Cross functional working and team development are high priorities. Great leadership and clarity of vision. Work life balance and flexible working are brilliant.

    Cons

Fewer and fewer promotion opportunities. Middle management layers being removed and consolidated. Lack of opportunity to gain quality feedback and career planning.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring employees more into the conversation around career planning and ensure the structure is there for employees to map out their next 1/2/3 moves so they have real ownership of their career.

I have been working at Unilever full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    - Highly formalized program designed to give cross-functional experiences, and international work experience
    - Work life balance is great, agile work-style affords you to work from home when necessary as long as you meet your deliverables
    - Great colleagues who are very supportive and strive to give you meaningful projects
    - Free ice cream and products occasionally
    - Formal training and development
    - Variety of career trajectories, if you are proactive about it, you can land where you want

    Cons

    - Typical annoyances of large corporation when it comes to IT, HR, and some administrative things
    - Have to pay your dues, some roles can be rather boring, but important stepping stones for better things
    - Like to relocate people a lot and have to live your life 8 months at a time -- obviously it's what you sign up for though and for some people it's a pro
    - Field offices can leave you feeling dislocated from the larger mission
