    Fun and busy

I worked at Union Rescue Mission

    Pros

The manager was very energetic, sometimes like a big kid. I was always doing something, from cashing people out to stocking merchandise. There was hardly ever a dull moment.

    Cons

I was on my feet for long periods of time, but insoles became my best friends.

I worked at Union Rescue Mission full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The organization does a phenomenal job helping homeless men, women and children. They offer great services, contacts and training for clients.

    Cons

I wish they were as caring to the staff as they are to the people we served. Very controlling organization down to monitoring who you have lunch with, especially males/females just having a simple meal together.

    Non-competitive wages.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Understand that Staff add value to your organization. Stop with the twice annual layoffs so your bottom line impresses the Board. Andy's not fooling anyone. He's loaded!!!

I worked at Union Rescue Mission full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The transformational work which Union Rescue Mission is accomplishing is immeasurable. This organizational is on the front line of the war on homelessness. Providing comprehensive support services to single men and women as well as intact families and families with single parents. Being established in the community for over 120 years I have had donors that extend through generations of support. Amazing!

    Cons

With the increased need of the largest homeless community in the nation, the challenge lies in the decrease of support. Union Rescue Mission receives no government funding.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The long term vision is lacking. This impacts morale and larger donor types.

I worked at Union Rescue Mission full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The people that work here are great and the clients are great.

    Cons

The people that worked here were great but communication is something that needs to be worked on. It takes some time getting used to the clients at the mission however once you get to know them, you will fall in love with them. There was a lot of work and much was expected without constructive criticism.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Give raises!

I have been working at Union Rescue Mission full-time

    Pros

Helping homeless the managers some senior leaders and staff are good to work with.

    Cons

Board of Directors and CEO do not support Staff. CEO is self serving and arrogant. CEO is more concerned about legacy the anything. Board is clueless. Both Board and CEO are unethical and out of touch. If the CEO stepped down the Board may be able to recover.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

CEO needs to leave. Board needs to do some serious soul searching.
