Good people, too many vice-presidents, driven by the bottom line

    Pros

Employees, employees, employees. Those who survived the monthly layoffs strive to do their best under difficult circumstances. Every attempt is made to "keep the customer happy."

    Cons

Employee morale is low, those employees with greater than 30 years experience are systematically targeted for reduction. Went several years (4+) without a raise, and raises approved for my team were minimal (1-2%). Over the past five + years, Unisys attempts to came by hiring external candidates as Vice Presidents. The ratio of Vice Presidents to employees is significantly higher than elsewhere, and the VP's attempt to implement their initiatives and tend to leave after a couple years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Why waste the time; management has one thing on their mind, cutting costs! Employees keep the company afloat, make a feeble attempt to show some type of employee appreciation!

I worked at Unisys full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great co-workers and try to have a fun atmosphere. They supply the equipment and stuff to perform your job. A nice place to meet new friends.

    Cons

Management and training is horrible, benefits are no good and actually would save money not having them. There is a lot of pressure to keep within the SLA's and there are a lot of mistakes made. When mistakes are made to obtain the stats, ticket quality is out the door. When callers call back in for complaints, the management does not do anything as most of the complaints are from management favorites.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find a better balance to train employees as there are employees who only in 1 queue making the same money as a person in 5 queue's. The workload and compensation is horrendous.

    Pros

--Unisys is a large global company with many oppourtunities, as long as relocation was an option.
--One of the few companies that offer a pension and 401k retirement options.
    --Unisys makes available needed training.

    Cons

--They are considered an outsourcing provider, or at least the division I worked for, but in reality it was nothing more than taking a cut of profit for staffing us there, just like any other contractor.
--You are at the mercy of the parent hiring company you work for. This position was with Eli Lilly & Co.
--Contractors are not treated all that well at Lilly, in fact some managers let it be known that you can be gone in '3 clicks and a few keystrokes' LOL, so if you are hired by Unisys to work at Lilly, work here at your own risk.

I have been working at Unisys (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible work environment, Good HR Practices, Initial Compensation offered is good as per industry standard.

    Cons

Old and myopic management who have lost track of what is happening around and where the industry is heading ! Negative politics and resistance towards outsourcing which leads to cost inflation and subsequently looses grounds to the other players in the industry who substantially outsources work to offer a very competitive price to it's clientele. Marketing style is that of the mid-80's. Employees are not trained on new stuff, especially when the industry is going through lot of paradigm shifts. Creativity and new ideas are seldom awarded and adopted !

I have been working at Unisys full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Only reason to work here is if you have 30 years of seniority and are hanging on to retire. The good ole boy network is the only way to either keep your job or gain any chance of growth.

    Cons

Horrible, and I mean horrible place to work. Unless you are a brown nosing, uneducated individual who enjoys 0, yes, zero merit increases every year, this place is not for you. Most middle management has evolved from fixing machines in the 70's-80's and reached their Peter Principle 20 years ago. Individual initiatives are squelched and/or stolen from you and by all means don't try to implement any kind of positive changes. These are perceived as "boat rocking" and usually not understood by the people who are still telling stores about Univac 1. I was a Sr. Director at this ill managed albatross for over 25 years. They have lost most of their major clients like Dell and spend more time trying to find ways to reduce cost versus generating revenue. YOU CANNOT CUT YOUR WAY TO LONG TERM PROFITABILITY!
Unisys is a company that is in a continual 15 year downward spiral and has no chance of ever recovering. If you are a young, educated individual who is trying to make a difference and start a career, DO NOT come to Unisys. You will end up leaving within 1-2 years. First you are young and second you are educated both are traits, looked down upon by middle management. Unless you are a good ole boy or crawled around inside machines in your past....Run Away as Fast as You Can! there is a better life out there and that goes for all of you still there who think there is nothing better. Trust me there is. Get out before they push you out to prop up next quarters margin.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Its too late for them. They don't listen anyway. Bring them a program that generates over 30 points of margin, generating over $300M in NEW and Growing topline revenue and be told that your program is not a core competency and be shut down. That is the forward thinking you will find at Unisys.
