Cons

Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your employees - find out what's really going on
Pros
Once merged, will be the biggest airline... lot's of places to travel to... the FA position offers flexibility in your days off... but the first few years of Reserve (on call) will be rough.
Cons
Merger process not going well... FA groups from the two sides are completely at odds with each other. Contract (work rules) and culture clash. Also, often a lack of respect by management which is only concerned with their bonuses and golden parachutes. Now that Tilton is out, we're halfway there... Smisek's performance is yet to be seen, but so far he's not proving to be much different than Tilton.
Advice to Senior Management
FA's deserve a contract NOW. As of 9/01/11 it's over 600 days without a new contract. If mgt wants to achieve the "synergies" this merger was supposed to provide they need to expedite the negotiations and offer the FA's a contract they DESERVE.
Pros
Great flying benefit and health insurance
Cons
Promotions are heavily based on management's personal preference
Advice to Senior Management
True talent recognition and selection needed
Pros
Flight benefits.
Maintaining a paycheck for over 22 years
Cons
The airline business is only profitable when oil stays below 100 dollars barrel.....
Advice to Senior Management
Need to become far more efficient with less waste.
To many duplicate jobs in the office.
We are in the Airline business not the office supply business.
Spend more time at the airports so you can see where the money is coming from.
Pros
Travel benefits are one of the only good reasons to work for UAL. The work is potentially interesting and fulfilling.
Cons
management was more interested in their own individual performance than that of the unit or company as a whole. cooperation and coordination between work groups was difficult if not impossible in this workplace.
Pros
Work at one of the largest and most recognized companies in the US.
The flight benefits and easy work are the top reasons team members stick around.
Cons
The Ecommerce team has historically had bad managers who are motivated solely by self interest. Since the merger there have been multiple reorganizations, power plays, and jokeying for position.
Lost in all this is consideration for customers and employees. For example, half the team still does not have a permanent job yet, six months after the organization was supposed to be in place. Management has given many different excuses, including that they are "really busy". That tells you where their priorities are.
In this environment, you find directors and senior managers who are clearly intellectually impotent and simply unqualified for what they should be doing, yet they are in place because they have latched on to the right people and stuck around long enough without challenging their managers. We have seen so often that the squeaky wheel gets rolled away, so if you get a job here you must know that it is more important to play the political game rather than focus on doing what is best for the company, your team mates and for customers.
It is so disappointing because United and it's customers deserve a great website. With the managers currently in place, that will never happen. Get used to a website that is 10 years behind.
Advice to Senior Management
Take an honest assessment of the ecommerce organization and decide to invest in hiring and retaining good people, and creating a superior websites and mobile applications.
Get feedback from everyone on effectiveness of directors and senior managers.
Move team leads who are focused on self promotion rather than results to somewhere they will be less harmful. I guarantee that if you try even a little bit, you will find at least one that is obvious to everyone.
Pros
The culture is like a big family.
Cons
Many inexperienced managers are managing people.
Advice to Senior Management
The managers underneather the leadership level arre FAILING!!
Pros
I love to travel and this is the best reason to work ffor an airline.
Cons
The traveling public is not what it used to be
Advice to Senior Management
