Pros
The airline industry is very complex, if you enjoy working in an environment where there is always something new .
Cons
Layoffs, business model is very suspectible to the economy (layoffs), in some areas a punitive cuture is still strong
Advice to Senior Management
Look at the leaders that are not forming positive realationships with their piers and others.
Pros
Good Travel Benefits, Flexible work environment
Cons
Merger uncertainty Different technology then currently being used.
Pros
United flies almost everywhere in the world, so the travel benefits are amazing if you have time to use them. Also, as a flight attendant, my coworkers are AMAZING.
Cons
too many to list...
Lowest paid in the industry.
Management constantly talks down to and belittles employees.
You are treated ONLY as a number, NOT as a person.
Advice to Senior Management
Fire whoever does your employee relations. Treat your employees well, pay them well and respect them. In return, they will treat the customers well. It's so simple, but United doesn't seem to get it.
Pros
good company for young people who like to travel
Cons
there are no opportunity to grow
Pros
Lots of travel opportunities all over the world to various unique and exotic locations. Pass travel is extensive and wonderful!
Cons
I did not negotiate effectively for a pay package so I got screwed! You really have to be willing to walk away or else you will be taken advantage of!
Pros
Free travel is best way to see the world
Cons
salary cuts are never too far away
Pros
senior leads very nice and helpful
Cons
management that just tries to fire everyone to hide thier lack of ability to do thier job
Advice to Senior Management
clean house
Pros
The money is descent and the training is comprehensive. The travel benefits can be descent if you are not on a tight schedule.
Cons
The management is not interested in individuals and many people are treated like a number. There is always a mental mindset of us against them in the management to employee relationship.
Advice to Senior Management
Realize that your employees can be your greatest assets. The maintenance department was profitable and doing well with Japanese freighters, jet shop, and other airlines bringing heavy visits.
Pros
Travel benefits and the ability to move within the company and learn the entire business.
Cons
Impact of fuel prices, and the overall economy that impacts our jobs - this is in the airline industry in general and not specific to just United.
Pros
-Flight benefits (when you can actually get on a flight as most flights are full)
Cons
-Lots of layoffs as result of the merger
-Employees given only 2 weeks vacation for their first 5 years!
-Free flight benefits are all on standby basis so its very stressful and you are unlikely to get to places you want to go. Many people have had to buy a full price ticket just to get home. If you have a family, don't even think about trying this.
-Half of the Mileage Plus division has quit in the last year alone!
-Managers in Mileage Plus are terrible and have no interest in developing or retaining employees
