I worked at United Airlines full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Flight benefits
    Downtown office
    Good people here and there

    Cons

Leadership full of yes men and women who really aren't very good at what they do
Fallout from merger continues to this day
IT team stuck in past and full of lifers
    Website is from circa 2000
Easy projects take forever; tough projects don't seem to launch

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

All ecommerce leadership at VP and director levels needs to be canned. They've had way more than enough time to reinvent their digital experience and they still can't get it out the door. Stay far, far away if you have anything to do with digital/ecommerce.

I worked at United Airlines full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

People, travel opportunities. A lot of people who are willing to help and improve the company.

    Cons

Not very efficient way of doing business - old ways, same management in the old United. Was suppose to adapt a new culture with dignity and respect never achieved it. Lack of communication and respect for employees.

Too many of old United attitude and ideas are still implemented.

I have been working at United Airlines full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

All of the reasons that Attracted me to the airlines: Flight benefits, Medical insurance, Pension, and wages. Flight benefits were wonderful, you could literally show up at an airport and get on stand-by almost anytime. The corporate culture was pleasant and like a big family.

    Cons

All of the Pros above no longer exists or it's value greatly diminished. Now it's impossible to get on a fight stand-by, and if you do get on, it is a middle seat in economy. Medical insurance is reduced at every contract. Our pension was dumped on the PBGC when the company filed for bankruptcy. Our wages are not keeping up with the economy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop trying to reinvent the wheel. If it isn't broken, don't fix it. Simple is better.
