    Pros

Ability to transfer to different organization within the company. Salary is good

    Cons

The merger with Continental destroyed the United culture. The merger benefitted Continental; the company is United in name only.

    Advice to Management

    Live by what you preach

    Pros

large size a benefit as far as route structure and diversity, good benefits

    Cons

large size a negative as far as impersonality, blending of 2 separate large cultures has taken far too long.

    Advice to Management

Negotiate a single contract for those working with separate contracts and get the real party started.

    Pros

Flying heavy iron, hither and yonder, across the globe is indescribably satisfying. Being successful is as simple as showing up for work, doing what you've been trained... that's it....

    Cons

Being a pilot isn't all glamor... Poor starting pay. Strained relationships and missing loved ones because of being away. Going to work may involve air travel to get there, with it's associated stress... Also mergers bring friction between work groups and corporate and operational growing pains.

    Advice to Management

"sensible quality" is what folks want, it's the key to a strong long term healthy company. Case in point: Outsourcing and Regional Airlines whose quality/performance standards are not up to par should not be associated with Mainline.

    Not a wonderful corporate climate

I have been working at United Airlines

    Pros

Can't think of any pros's other than standby flight benefits. But flight schedules are too unreliable and if you miss you return flight you have to deal with management intolerance.

    Cons

Lots of pay freezes and pay cuts. Very political job climate. Somewhat tense. Unprofessional management. Lots of late night shift work.

    Advice to Management

    Become employee friendly.

    Pros

Flight benefits and flexible work hours. There are some very smart people that work at UA.

    Cons

Lack of any clear direction. Switching technology every time there is a change in management. The technology shouldn't be tied to the current manager. Wasting $160 Million on a datacenter that is only 1 year old and is 95% empty because the people that designed it did a horrible job. Almost impossible to get anything accomplished because of the ridiculous IT policies.

    Advice to Management

There should be a case study done on the United / Continental merger......"How not to do a merger"

    Pros

Fly almost for free IF you can find a seat to get on a plane

    Cons

Current management does not care about or appreciate its employees or its passengers; it's entirely about pleasing the shareholders & the bottom line on how much money it can make.

    Advice to Management

Pls realize that this company is successfully run by its front-line employees & you've made all of us terribly disappointed & embarrassed to call you our employee. Pls give us the tools to successfully do our job. Pay us a competitive salary as we've given back to save this company for over a decade. Show us a crumb of respect....
