I have been working at United Airlines part-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Worldwide travel benefits, somewhat flexible work schedule, average compensation.

    Cons

    Hard work goes unnoticed.
Very low moral. Management quick to blame, quicker to take credit.
Constant, tiresome payroll and scheduling problems.
Pre-merger groups pitted against each other; lots of double-standards.
    You are a number.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at United Airlines full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Learned a LOT. Great opportunities to learn about many areas of the company. This is a great place to start your career.

    Cons

Small cog in a big wheel. Advancement has too many variables and not based solely on your work contributions. This is a great place to start your career and learn, but not a place to develop a long term career.

I have been working at United Airlines full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Can get involved with many aspects of the travel business from aircraft to the business end.

    Cons

Some managers haven't a clue about the talents or career goals of their "subordinates". Probably because they lack education and training.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to put qualified people in management positions.

I have been working at United Airlines part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedule, I can work as much as I want or as little as the minimum required hours per month. Great coworkers, so many that you don't get to know them all, but everyone is very friendly.
I work in Houston in the international arrivals area and I get to see and meet many people from all over the world. Travel benefits are great.

    Cons

They have a points system for sick days and tardies, the amount is only 6 or 7 a year, if you use them all you are fired.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more available and listen to your frontline employees, we really have a lot of control of the first impression the customers get, so don' t make us be grumpy unhappy employees.

Current Employee - Manager - Flight Operations in Chicago, IL

I have been working at United Airlines full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

United provides a lot of opportunities to gain experience throughout the company. I have worked in Purchasing, Finance, Flight Operations, and Continuous Improvement. I have never felt "pigeon-holed" into any particular role or department. I have also had a solid work-life balance during my entire time here.

    Cons

The airline industry is very volatile. Many cost-drivers like weather and fuel price are out of the company's control. Flying stand-by is a great perk. However, flights are typically very full, and "non-revving" is sometimes a pretty risky adventure.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue focusing on cost reductions, and increase capital investment when able.
