I have been working at United Natural full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Tuition Reimbursement program available to all employees after probationary period. A green company that cares about its environmental impact. Typically open management positions are given to internal candidates after interviewing.

    Cons

Salary for office is sub-par for the market. Benefits have gone down hill over the last several years but still competitive for whats on the market. The company being a warehouse often makes policies based off that part of the business with little to no consideration to office associates. Management and associates workload is often extreme and unmanageable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Review policies and salary for the office as a separate entity within your company.. Hire adequate staffing to not bog down the current employees. Remember that as you continue to go corporate to not focus just on the share holders but to the people who do the day to day tasks.

    Pros

Employee stock, good benefits, food co-op, and the feeling that you get working for a green company.

    Cons

Cut-throat management, out and out abuse of staff. Textbook hostile work environment, corporate bullying at it's worst. No line between work and home life. Unrealistic and inappropriate infringements on staff's lives.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some, not all, of the biggest offenders have been (thankfully) let go or replaced. You need to do two things; review the stack of employees that left in the last few years for the ones that you should call back, and two; get a consulting firm in to turn around the corporate culture. Profitability does not hinge on brutal treatment of staff. You need to admit that there is a problem; make a good act of contrition, and vow to sin no more. If you're not willing to do that they what you have is a people mill that churns staff members like grist. That is not the values you ascribe to on your website. Either start living up to those values or take them down. Call me; I'll help you do it. I tried, and I was driven out.

I worked at United Natural full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    I met some nice people.

    Cons

I worked at the corporate level for two years and it was like being in prison. They ruled by a culture of fear. I wish I would have known ahead of time what working there was really like and regret ever leaving a great company to work here. Long hours, stress, weekends and extreme micromanaging are all part of the perks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value your staff as team members, not replaceable parts. There truly is something called work-life balance and life is more important. Yes, work hard but not at the expense of families and health.

    Pros

    Green company with great benefits.

    Cons

Upper management is more concerned with saving money than have a safe facility. If your not touching a box your support and they are slicing and dicing support left and right.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit cutting your support because it STILL takes people to do those other roles. Let people do their jobs!

    Pros

Friendly associates, Excellent benefits and a Green Company

    Cons

No exception policies for warehouse workers are used for internal office staff.
Management has lost its connection with staff and are less concerned with a happy staff then they are making numbers and bonuses.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make exceptions for employees who meet and exceed job expectations.
Move back to having office and warehouse separate expectations (as far as employee policy is concerned)

    Pros

Stable company. They are changing some departments around so I think it will be better organized in the near future.

    Cons

Some departments are overworked and the lower managers that have been around too long need to learn some skill so they can motivate their staff and make it a positive environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To many of the managers, but NOT all of them - smile once in a while and act like you care about your 'team'.

    Pros

Good hard working front line employees.

    Cons

Extremely bad autocratic leadership at the corporate level. The entire corporate leadership team lacks even the most basic people skills. Their actual distribution knowledge is also weak with limited or nonexistent original thoughts. People in regional or local leadership roles have left regularly. If you are a free thinker and believe in the value of people you will not fit into this work environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Nothing they will listen to!
