    Pros

Stable company. They are changing some departments around so I think it will be better organized in the near future.

    Cons

Some departments are overworked and the lower managers that have been around too long need to learn some skill so they can motivate their staff and make it a positive environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To many of the managers, but NOT all of them - smile once in a while and act like you care about your 'team'.

    Pros

Well it was a cool laid back environment until the roll out of the new handbook.they used to care

    Cons

Micro managing became unbearable. They watch closely in hopes for error.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

Friendly associates, Excellent benefits and a Green Company

    Cons

No exception policies for warehouse workers are used for internal office staff.
Management has lost its connection with staff and are less concerned with a happy staff then they are making numbers and bonuses.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make exceptions for employees who meet and exceed job expectations.
Move back to having office and warehouse separate expectations (as far as employee policy is concerned)

    Pros

Good hard working front line employees.

    Cons

Extremely bad autocratic leadership at the corporate level. The entire corporate leadership team lacks even the most basic people skills. Their actual distribution knowledge is also weak with limited or nonexistent original thoughts. People in regional or local leadership roles have left regularly. If you are a free thinker and believe in the value of people you will not fit into this work environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Nothing they will listen to!

    Pros

You get to engage in training at local function halls and outside programs that offer additional enhancement to your skills sets.

    Cons

It can be very difficult to work here if you are not the type who is infatuated by attention, if you are not the type who likes to gossip and socialize, and if you are not a grunge type mentality. Perhaps the most difficult part to face with this Company is it's lack of human decency treating others with respect: Expect to be micromanaged to eat lunch at your cube when need be and to restrain yourself from using the rest room unless management gives you permission and frees you from possible reprimand and being written up on your performance reviews.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn modern-day etiquette and human decency in the way you treat human beings. Your management makes frequent references speaking down towards other people, cultures, and frequently makes reference to drugs and drugging people to make money in their daily meetings.

I worked at United Natural full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I worked independently with autonomy and was able to create my schedule. The company offers average benefits for a company of its size.

    Cons

Very long works days most of the time and very stressful. Often left to resolve issues created by other departments that would not support you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This company continues to grow and my advice to management is please don't forget about the industry that has helped build your business.

I have been working at United Natural full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    Good job during bad economy.

    Cons

Work RIDICULOUS hours. Especially supervisors who are salary! Supervisors have been working 15-20 hour days, for weeks on end, with no bonus, or incentive...

Payroll will push your payday if it falls anywhere near a holiday. IE. Labor Day was Monday, payday was supposed to be Thursday, but who cares, we'll pay you A DAY LATE anyways and use the holiday as an excuse. Hope you didn't need to pay your mortgage on autopay!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to take care of ALL employees. Production is covered by unions... but what about your leadership?

I worked at United Natural full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Discounts on products, flexible schedule (depending on the department you work for, location, and manager), some room for growth opportunities,

    Cons

Lack of communication, some departments/managers are cliquey and only hire their "friends", lost focus of the company and cater to supermarkets and mass market while ignoring independent retailers, pay isn't great

    Cons

Work/life balance is less than ideal
    Medical/Dental Benefits are average

Benefits, that is if they would stop taking more and more away

    Cons

This companies managers play MAJOR favorites. Basically if you are buddy buddy with a higher up, you WILL excel, otherwise enjoy your short term working for UNFI.
