I have been working at United Regional Health Care System full-time

    Pros

You get to know the physicians here very well and has a nice community feel. A wide variety of patient demographic is served since this hospitals pulls from several counties. A beautiful new surgery tower has been built in recent years.

    Cons

There is a lack of local competition for wages and standards of care. This hospital is very expensive. It takes a long time to work your way up the food chain as experienced staff are tenacious about their positions and have little incentive to share.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increased efforts for growth would benefit turnover. Also, many employees would like to explore other options, but fear reprisal. Make the environment such that returning employees are welcome and they will want to return once they find they are valued as individuals here vs a larger big city type facility.

    Pros

no real "pros"...it's just a job....very little inside advancement....cherry positions go to relatives, friends or "suck-ups"

    Cons

an inept management top-heavy organization.....responsibilities are pushed down onto subordinates who are given no guidance or authority.....employees who demonstrate personal devotion or drive are considered threats to their immediate supervisors and are earmarked for elimination

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

eliminate about half of your current manager, director, VP positions and require the remainder to be "leaders"

    Pros

No pro's, will get burned out within a year.

    Cons

Bad insurance plans, no room for advancement, and high turn over rate. They don't empty the trash daily.

    Pros

Very good hospital and company to work for. Good size hospital for its location.

    Cons

    Focuses too much on nurses.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't forces on incentives and bonuses for nurses. Employees from all other departments should be recognized.

I worked at United Regional Health Care System full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Texans are always welcoming and friendly. This was true at the hospital as well as the surrounding area. The work environment at the hospital was positive and I felt that the management was good which is not always easy to find in healthcare anywhere. I was a traveler there, so they were happy to see me and have the extra help. But aside from that, I think the staff was generally satisfied with their jobs and it showed.

    Cons

Wichita Falls isn't the most exciting place, but the surrounding prairie is really pretty and dramatic. As far as the hospital itself, I think the only thing I found negative were a couple of the individuals in the department I was in. Those types are everywhere though, not just at this hospital: you know them, they are the ones who disappear when a patient needs a suppository or a new IV. There were no more of these types at United than at other places I have worked.
