I have been working at United Rentals

    Pros

Large company with good benefits. There are a lot of good hard working people who do there jobs to the best of there abilities.

    Cons

United rentals has become so focused on the way the company appears to stock holders and trying to get new investors by cutting costs and raising it's roca score that the equipment fleet has really gone down hill.
Rushed inspections of equipment and the whole "if it ain't broke don't fix it" attitude toward preventive maintenance has resulted in a overwhelming number of junk being sent out on rent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I know middle management is under pressure to achieve quotas on cost / profit but when you send a customer up in a lift (up to 185 feet) it must be done right the first time.

    Pros

The pay is acceptable and the company is booming.

    Cons

Customers waiting to the last minute to order the equipment they need.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at United Rentals full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Learning platforms are unlimited>I loved learning about the protocols and the company gave me free reign on creating inventory<shop organization and full responsibility of getting my job done.
Unfortunately their are only 40 hrs. a week given and much more is needed in a start-up situation.
It was my dream job but unfortunately we had a novice of a branch manager.

    Cons

    Managers that have Napolian Syndrome

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Love the company>Better choices on Branch Managers

    Pros

Pay is great. Tons of overtime. Great benefits package. They even buy you new boots each year!

    Cons

Boss could tend to try to lead through intimidation. Luckily it always backfires on him once you go up the chain! Owww

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do what you say and say what you do! That's called integrity. The policy is the policy binding between employer and employee.

I worked at United Rentals full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great Company to work for. There is a lot of opportunity if you are open for it. Many different directions to move your career. This is a company where you are truly measured by your accomplishments and the only limits are those you set on yourself.

    Cons

If you don't like change this is not the place for you. If you don't like the way things are, wait a month or two and it will probably change.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the bonus program more consistent. Once you get it figured out it too changes and it seems that it is designed to pay out on a two year cycle. Meaning you see a substantially larger bonus about every two years due to the matrix changing that determines the payout.

I have been working at United Rentals full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The safety culture is second to none.
The diversity in the workplace is awesome, and the senior management support in this area is strong.
Operations are performing very well with much more room for continued profitable growth.

    Cons

Work like balance can be tough to manage as we all work very hard, but it is fulfilling work.
The industry is cyclical, while things are great now there will eventually be lean days again.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the great work, and don't forget to pat people on the back some more. Celebrate your victories!
