Former Employee - Manager - Payroll, Benefits & Leave Administration in Philadelphia, PA

I worked at United Research Laboratories full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Worked in an egalitarian environment where each individual opinion counted. They were open to suggestions to improve efficiencies and operations.

    Cons

The original company was acquired by a larger company. At that point we changed from a corporate headquarters to a business unit, and the egalitarian mentality ceased to exist.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Departments that work as a team where individuals feel that their input affects the end result, work more efficiently.

    Pros

decent salary and benefits package, great job stability for someone interested in a long tenure with the company, supportive of training

    Cons

Not enough room for career advancement, not located in a desirable campus setting with restaurants and shops for lunchtime activities

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in developing managers who treat people fairly and are not allowed to function incompetently while bring down the morale of the employees that are managed by them.

I have been working at United Research Laboratories

    Pros

Branded and generic drugs. Growing Company. Younger workforce mixed with some veterans. There is exlusivity now for Colchicine which should increase profits dramatically for that entire year.

    Cons

Upper Management is extremely conservative and don't like to reward the efforts of those who work the hardest. They have all these plans and budgets in place with increasing profits, yet they want to continue hiring temporary workers so they don't have to pay them unemployment and insurance. Basically, what is the incentive to work for them other than a paycheck?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward your employees, when they get job performance reviews of 5 all the way across the board, and then you turn around and deny their Manager's bid to make them full time, why work for a company who doesn't treat you fairly? Self-Centered attitudes will run this company into the ground. When value is added to your team, reward it, don't ignore it.
