Current Employee – been working at United Space Alliance
Pros – Working for the Space Program was fun, it paid well, great benifits until two years ago when they took away most of our sick time and doubled our insurance costs.
Cons – USA at KSC depends on Congress budgets. Almost everyone was laid off during the end of the Shuttle Program. I do not see any future there for USA at KSC.
Advice to Senior Management – Try harder to find work for us and win a contract.

Former Employee – worked at United Space Alliance
Pros – Exciting, challenging work
Talented, enthusiastic co-workers
Opportunity to contribute to a historic space program
Good benefits until the last couple of years
Cons – No future for company once Space Shuttle program ended, expect it to be re-absorbed back into Lockheed Martin and Boeing
Advice to Senior Management – Long time USA managers: Unfurl those golden parachutes
And send the Downsizing Expert CEO back to Boeing

Current Employee – been working at United Space Alliance
Pros – USA is a great and amazing company to work for. Good benefits, family friendly, opportunities for advancement and a great management team.
Cons – Downsizing is having a negative effect on people and on the community. People have forged long term networks that will be almost completely dissolved after STS 135 lands. A sad time for USA
Advice to Senior Management – Managment handled the end of Shuttle activities very well. Keep up the good work as we face the challenges of the future.

Current Employee – been working at United Space Alliance
Pros – My dept. management is incredible. I've spent the last 25 years of my life here at KSC, held 4 different jobs, and this by far is the best management I've ever had. Also, the pay is more than fair, you are rewarded for a job well done. Unfortunately it's all coming to an end too soon. The last shuttle launch is scheduled for July 8th 2011, I will be getting laid off on July 22. Overall, a very good company to work for.
Godspeed Atlantis & crew.
Cons – Very top heavy on layers of management. Way too many uneeded managers in the company. The parent companies, Lockheed Martin and Boeing, do absolutely nothing for USA employees (at least nothing than I can tell). I firmly believe in one year or less USA will no longer exist due to the end of the shuttle program.
Advice to Senior Management – Lose some layers of management that don't do anything and keep more of your lower level people that do a large portion of the work.

Current Employee – been working at United Space Alliance
Pros – Flexible schedules. Personally rewarding tasks. Great fellow employees who really try to help each other. Managment that truly believes in you. You're allowed to become an expert in many fields.
Cons – Due to the limitations of government contracts(read: Shuttle is ending and Constellation is cancelled) there is limited future job growth.
Advice to Senior Management – Upper level management needs to be a little more assertive with the NASA customer.
Middle management needs to push some employees a little harder.

Current Employee – been working at United Space Alliance
Pros – Great company to work for
Good opportunities to grow in your technical area of expertise
Cons – Dead weight allowed to stay too long
Advice to Senior Management – Use the opportunity with the end of the Shuttle Program to clear out anything less than the top performers

Cons – End of Space Program so no more job no more contract

Former Employee – worked at United Space Alliance
Pros – Prior to cut-backs due to the Shuttle Program ending, USA had a great work environment. Work/Life balance was great, and the general company atmosphere was nice.
Cons – When Shuttle started winding down, Management stopped communicating. The environment turned into a dog eat dog world. USA has to lay off emplyees due to ending contracts, and there isn't anything promising on the horizon. They missed out on a few key contracts.
Advice to Senior Management – Maintain the respect for your employees that you had when work was bountiful. I hope when Shuttle is done you can get the environment back to where it was 4 years ago.
