I have been working at United States Air Force Auxiliary Civil Air Patrol (More than a year)

    Pros

Great learning experiences, great mentors and a lot of values and skills that can be used outside the Civil Air Patrol.

    Cons

Some not always willing to follow regulations or willing to learn.

I have been working at United States Air Force Auxiliary Civil Air Patrol full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

This is a large volunteer organization so there is no salary. However, the experience in leadership, management and aviation operations is second to none.

    Cons

The longer you are with the organization, the higher you go. Sometimes politics gets in the way of doing the right thing.

    Advice to Management

Reduce political maneuvering to a minimum, and follow the regulations.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at United States Air Force Auxiliary Civil Air Patrol (Less than a year)

    Pros

Most of the employees are public service oriented, warm, friendly and intelligent. "Unexpected" days off tend to follow what the Air Force is doing at Maxwell AFB. Company picnics are fun and the offices are all new in a historic structure on base. "Ratings" below asks about work/life balance. Most of the time, it's great. There are periodic busy periods that will have you out of town for a very long weekend or perhaps working long hours at the office.

    Cons

It is important to stay inside the box and not rock the boat. Annual budget cuts seem to leave everyone guessing about job stability. You're there to support the mission performed by volunteers. Politics is often a big factor; not what you know, but who you can make happy.

    Advice to Management

Focus on mission and people, not personalities.

    Pros

Benefits, travel, people. Great training, opportunities. Promotions are based on what you put in to it. If you study and stay out of trouble you should be good to go.

    Cons

It can take away from your family life. Especially with deployments. When you're not deployed, its easy for you to get caught up with the day to day and the next thing you know you're working later hours.
