    Pros

    Pay and benefits were ok

    Cons

Had just started in May 2015. Fired in July because I was involved in accident leaving work. Exceeded 1.5 attendance points. Don't care about employees well being

    Advice to Management

Be more compassionate towards employees when something unexpected happens like a car accident and dont be so quick to fire a person thats making every effort to get to work and you stipl deduct attendance points from them and fire them. Essendant in Houston

I have been working at United Stationers full-time

    Pros

If there were any, I'd tell you.

    Cons

Wipe out upper elite and start over. Self seeking egoists whose only concern is their pay and bonuses at the cost of hard working staff who are easily discarded.

    Advice to Management

wake up or what you have will soon be gone. You need to be humbled and realize once staff is gone, the ones you so easily discard, the company will fall and then how will you get your money, your god?

I worked at United Stationers full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Overtime allowed for some employees. Pay ok if you've been there a while. Decent hours, no weekends.

    Cons

No appreciation for employees no matter how above and beyond they go. Devoted, loyal, long term employees let go while less qualified still have jobs. Manager has no clue what their employees job entails. Decisions made by upper management without feedback from people who do the job everyday. Definite favoritism shown.

    Advice to Management

Rethink recent changes to certain laid off staff. These employees knew what they were doing.

I have been working at United Stationers full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits. Some managers are great while others are just horrible. Nice corporate headquarters building with a large atrium. Some departments allow associates to work from home one day per week.

    Cons

No long term vision for the company. Constantly being pulled to work on competing and conflicting priorities. Management told associates working on their corporate transformation that working on the transformation project would be good for their careers. They then let many team members go before the project was complete. Morale at the company is at an all time low. Executive turnover has been very high. More than 4 CFOs, 2 CIOs and 3 CEOs in 10 years.....

    Advice to Management

Stop promoting yourselves and making your lives very cushy on the backs of lower level associates who feel the day to day brunt of the annual Q1 layoffs with no more than an average 2% annual raise and no appreciation shown.

    Pros

This is a great company to work for and I'd recommend it to a friend looking for a job. Need... twenty .....words .....there!

    Cons

Flex time policy is a bit restrictive. Not sure why i'm being required to hit a twenty word minimum but this is how i'm going to get there!

    Pros

It is a large stable company with opportunities if you are willing to move.

    Cons

Pay is mediocre and benefits are decent. Senior Leadership has lost focus on the front line workers and focused on shareholders

    Advice to Management

Give back to the people that do the work and you will be more in return.
