I worked at United Surgical Partners

    Pros

Brand recognition in the DFW marketplace, Strong health system alignment

    Cons

True sales professionals need not apply as the whim and fancy of nurse managers and their managers dictate your success despite what you bring to them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Eliminate the lack of professionalism exhibited by the mid level management that blocks true entrepreneurial drive.

    Former Employee - Scheduler

I worked at United Surgical Partners full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits. PTO time and holiday pay included in package. Interview process was smooth no telephone or second interview was involved for the position I work in.

    Cons

Management provides little guidance or communication...too busy to take time away from their schedule to know what's going within their department between employees and the job the perform. Steer away from Nashville location where long term employees are allowed to make decisions without management investigating.

    Terrible management

Former Employee - Staff RN in Austell, GA
Former Employee - Staff RN in Austell, GA

I worked at United Surgical Partners part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent pay for this area of the country
    Facility good/clean

    Cons

While they preach that patient care comes first, they put most emphasis on cost. They have totally lost focus of the mission statement by making it nearly impossible to work efficiently or as a team. Staffed now by mainly agency RNs after the exit of four out of six RNs a year ago, not to mention, taking away necessary pieces of equipment for critical care area (PACU). Management has absolutely no idea of the needs of the RNs, nor do they seem to care. The nursing administrator has only an ADN, which does not provide for any nursing management training, and it shows.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention to your facilities that are not in Texas. This is NOT the USPI I know from 5 years ago. Staff used to be treated with respect and like we were really worth something, and patient care was number one. We had what we needed for good patient care and had a good, stable staff that worked together as a great team. A good team and happy staff ALWAYS translates to great patient care. Get back your focus and get rid of ineffective management.

I have been working at United Surgical Partners full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits and chances for growth, but only if you are willing to engage in drama and report office gossip to management ( Houston Regional office).

    Cons

Lots of drama, hostile working environment and people are not acknowledged based on their own merits but instead on how chummy they can get with management. If you are not "accepted" you will be living a nightmare.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need a REAL HR department in place. You really need to keep your personal feelings and opinions out of the office. If you do not care for someone know that it's not only rude, but unprofessional to voice it. It is also bad management to not train or let others know changes within the office ( policies, etc) just because you don't like them or the gossip you might have heard.

As a facility administrator, I found USPI to have very competitive salaries and benefits, and provide adequate support

Former Employee - Facility Administrator in Phoenix, AZ

I worked at United Surgical Partners full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

USPI is a progressive company, with many layers of administrative support. Solid management across the board, with resources and training as necessary

    Cons

IT infrastructure was dated, and software solutions were quite clunky. Bandaid fixes were the norm.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

USPI needs to invest more money into internal software development and solutions. They are large enough to afford the up-front costs in order to reap the benefits of future efficiency and accuracy.

    Pros

Flexibility, co-workers, travel, $$ is fair, potential for growth

    Cons

Disconnect between ops and marketing. Two distinct theories on how to approach doctors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Align ops and marketing to better deliver a consistent message

    Pros

Initially appeared to be supportive of individual surgery centers. Enjoyed the work atmosphere in the clinical area.

    Cons

This could be the individual center but it appears that cost savings are primary, above patient care.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
